Happy 20th Birthday Marilyn

There is/was a local maroon that was said to be 30+ years old. It was said to be one of the original breeders for C-Quest. I can't be sure how accurate the claim is because C-Quest is only 24 years old, and they started with ocellaris/percula.:twitch: The fish did look very very old though. The last time I was in the shop where it lived, the fish wasn't there. The owner wasn't there either, so I couldn't check on the status of the fish.

Just FYI. Claim of 33 year old percula.

EC, if you are talking about the maroon pair at Sea in the City, then the female died a year or so ago.

I like the story of marilyn,Hope to have mine that long, they were just 3 months old when I got them and this year they will 6 years old.

Marilyn is alive and well. I believe her to be 22 years old now.

That is awesome that she is still alive and that you are still on the forum to update us on her! What is your advice to keeping her living so long? Have you had any other fish live as long or close to Marilyn's age?

yep, I know the shop you mean. I wondered the same thing as the last time I was in there the big maroon wasn't in the tank and I forgot to ask before I left.

Yep...... That's the fish I was talking about.
Thanks for the update on her status. Even though it's not what I was hoping for.

Aww, thats too bad! But she had a good life it sounds like..

I'm sure she had a GREAT life while she was in that shop. All the animals are very well cared for. Especially her.

She looks great. I been trying to find occy's like her with the thin black lines and that stay all orange. Now they have darker lines and they get a dusting on top of black that darken them.
Think of all the eggs she has prolly laid in her time. Prolly a few hundred thousand or more.

She is still alive and well.

Interestingly, the clown I put in the tank with her several years ago is still very small, compared to its sibling, in a different tank, which has grown normally.

What a great story! We too have "Nemo" with a very similar story. Though she is a little younger at 15 yrs old. She was one of the first fish in the tank and has been through everything with us too, from ick to velvet to a almost complete tank wipeout 1 1/2 yrs ago (Nemo was the only fish to survive). About 1 yr ago we added a BTA and she won't go near it. Not sure if the anemone crab has something to with it???...But we are going to add another BTA soon and see if that works.

Nemo tells me everything that is going on with the tank and will even eat out of your hand. And YES she does still attack me viciously during tank maintenance!

Hope Marilyn lives a long time. keep the updates coming.

In response to the question on breeding ....
I have never witnessed any breeding or egg laying behavior. I suspect she might have been too old when he became a she.

Life goes on!

Life goes on!

It seemed Marylin was in need of hospice care recently. She "almost" completely stopped eating for the better part of two weeks. She was very lethargic, wedging herself in, in the back of her cave. I kept offering piscine, and she would eat only a couple. My wife offered that she was having trouble swallowing, which is typical of folks near the end of life.

She finally started eating again, a few small pellets at first, and now back to many. While she is nowhere near as active as last year, and has not laid an egg nest in many months, she is not on death's door either.

Happy 26th Birthday Marylin!
