Help – Carpet Anemone!!!

I received my first Carpet Anemone today. Once placed in the display and the anemone opened up I noticed an injury, looks like it is torn. I would like to know if it will heal. Or is there anything I can do? Should I take it back to the LFS? See attached photos. All help will be greatly appreciated.

IMO, they may have sold you a damaged anemone. Did you not see the damage until you acclimated it? Was it like that in the store? It also looks like it is bleaching which is another sign of an unhealthy anemone. If it were me, I'd take it back.

Sounds like an online order? I would send the vendo the photos ASAP. Many will not gurantee carpets but damage is a different story IMO. Good luck.

Thanks for coming back to me. Yes on line order. I have sent pic’s to the LFS I ordered if from. They are telling me that the anemone will be ok, maybe it is splitting, I was told.

Splitting would be highly unlikely and splitting that soon would be sign of strees not comfort. I don't even think there has been a documented case of a hosting carpet splitting in captivity. I could be wrong on that though.

Good thing that you got in touch with them early on.

Its not splitting the anemone is injured and bleached. I would be on the phone with that fish store, they obviously dont know what they are talking about.

I hope you were able to get a full refund, shame on them for selling you an animal in that condition. Sadly it probably won't survive the stress of being reacclimated to their system. That is if they don't just chuck it. Doesn't sound like a legit operation to me.

Agreed that it's best that it went back to the shop. However, I'll have to play devil's advocate by saying that whether it's legit or not is not necessarily associated with selling a damaged anemone. I'd think it's more likely just another case of an LFS not knowing better.
