my clown was being way to aggressive to my black so i took the advice people gave me and moved him into a little clear cage in the tank.
its one of those clear food containers with some liverock rubble and an airstone.
will this work or should i move him into something else?

more info would help. you say aggressive to the black, what kind is the black and what kind is the other one.

one is orange ocell, other is black ocell. both in my 29gal. if had ealier posts and somone told me to seperate the orange with a see through container, just wondering if I did it right.

They make little isoaltion/breeder cubes (approx 6"x6") that are coverered in fine netting. You could put him in one of these and sink it to the bottom. Then you wouldn't need the airstone or to change the water out. Sorry I dont know the name of them, but saw one at a LFS the other day.

alright i changed it up. i poke some holes through it so i dont need an airstone or worry about different chemistry.
only problem is the black clown, the one being beat up, was the only one i could catch so hes now isolated. does it matter wich clown i put away?

I did this to my male guppies when I was into fresh water... it seemed to work...
But let them beat each other up. It establishes dominance which will help them pair sooner! :D

it got to the point where my black clown would make a burrow under a rock just to escape the orange clown. it just got a little to violent.
still wondering about my last post

How long have you had them? Are they both the same size?

There is a chance that you have 2 females, and keeping them together will most likely end in the death of one of them.

And sometimes, even if you have a male and female the female just won't accept the male. Years ago when I had a pair of B&W O's the female beat up the male so much that it jumped out of the tank twice -- the last time was when I wasn't around.

black is 1 1/4 "
orange is 1 1/2"
the black clown shows complete signs of submission and he rarely tries to fight back so im pretty sure its stilll a female. theyve been in the tank for like 3-4 weeks plus QT for a week or 2 and would 2 females have killed each other already?

No, they wouldn't necessarily have killed each other already.

They still could be un-sexed juvi's, two males, one male one female, or any combo.

Confused by this; " and he rarely tries to fight back so im pretty sure its stilll a female " You say, "he" and then "female" describing the same fish.

Yeah, and the container trick is usually for intro's, not like a time out.
If it's really bad, I'd pull the beat up guy, maybe try to intro a new male later.
Are these the only 2 clowns, and has it been just these 2 from the beginning?

sorry i just get mixxed up with the females males and stuff.
the orange is the female and the mean one, black is the male nice guy( i think )
just the 2 clowns from the begining. som1 said that isolating the black clown in a see through container would help, and idk why it wouldnt. orange guy cant beat him up, yet still see him and maybe pair

Usually we intro in a container, so you can see if female will accept it, and it doesn't kill the male before you can get it out.
But if the female doesn't accept it, and attacking it, it would surprise me if that changed, but hey, ya never know.

i thought the female was supposed to be pretty mean to the male in the first couple weeks to months of them becoming a pair?

Mean, badgering, yes, excessive fin tearing or obviously trying to kill it is another story.
I'm just going off your verbal description of "female just being too violent"

i dont think the female is exactly trying to kill the male. he will go completely out of his way though to attack it. i mean the male make a burrow under a rock just to escape from the orange clown.. that cant be normal
