Housing two emperors together

Here's a video. I didn't quarantine because the QT was just too small for him and he was getting stressed so I am hoping he is not hiding any hitchhikers.

I finally heard the smaller one grunt at him yesterday. Amazing that I could hear the smaller one grunting from outside the tank!

That is awesome!! Would you be able to add a clown trigger some day or is that a no no mix? That was my plan for the 220

Looks very nice and healthy. I hear mine grunt from across the room.

A healthy moorish idol will hold its own with large angels.

Risky given how aggressive the clowns are but I've seen it done. I've even see two very large clowns together which were peaceful.

Edit: granted the tank was 2k gallons but they were fine together. The same tank had 2 large emperors and a humongous eel. Was at LFS, guy ended up getting rid of tank after prob 20 plus years because one of the seams started to show wear and understandably was concerned from a liability perspective.

Shame :-/ 2000 gallons is large. Would the angels eat leather corals or colt corals?

Not sure on that one, don't have any first hand experience.

I've been asking around and reading books. I see some some LPS Zoas some clams, but haven't heard anything about softies or hammers etc.

Actually quite well. No more grunting [emoji20]

I was looking forward to that but I don't her the little one grunt anymore, the big one never grunted. So far, the big one doesn't bother chasing the little one and the big one is also 10x more active, he roams the entire tank vs the other one just kinda hangs out in one spot (did so even before the bigger one was introduced).

No fighting, no grunting. They don't really give each other the time of day. So for now, all is well. Time will tell as the other starts to grow.

Will be getting an annularis and asfur in due time as well.

Your Moorish Idol does well with the angels?

No problems with the Angels. I did have an Asfur which was a bully, and a French that ate everything in sight (at different times). Both had to go because they were affecting the Idol's health.

My emps grunt all the time - mostly the large one I think.

Good to hear. Mine grunts quite a bit. He's a little bossy to the chrysurus, bandit and Cortez angels. Had a moorish idol for 8 years and it could hold it's own with all the fish. One of the best fish I've ever had. Ate anything and constantly. Got it as a large adult from diver in Hawaii so who knows how old it really was.

That's awesome. I plan on doing moorish idol as well, love the look of that fish but will wait until the angels are in - may or may not be the smartest move.

What is your Idols favorite food?

IME a healthy idol can take of itself and I added mine to established angels.

It ate ALL foods with he same gusto. Pellets, flake, mysis clams, nori, etc.

Agreed. It eats anything.

It can take care of itself, but can be out-competed for food. I find they need to eat all day long so having food sitting on the bottom is a good thing. I feed extra pellets so that happens. I had a French Angel that ate everything in a matter of minutes and there was nothing left for the Idol to eat through the day. It began getting thin so I had to relocate the French.

I also had an Asfur Angel that was just plain grouchy, and he constantly harassed and chased the Idol. I finally removed him as well.

I have had it almost as long as Large Angels had theirs, and it is definitely my favorite fish. 7 1/2 years now.
