I have a BTA that has split a few times in the past year and I think its time to trade/sell them what is the easiest way to do this? I know that they are pretty sticky and stuborn and dont want to come off their rock. Suggestions?

well my dad has been lucky enough that when his rbta splits its always go to glass so he just scrapes it off. i dont peronally own a anemone but i would not reccomend pealing it off the rock for fear it may damge the foot of the anemone beyond repair. if you really want it gone than just point a powerhead at it and maybe it will get agrivated and move.

while the powerhead is a good idea they are all in the same area so the last thing I want to do is make them start roaming

oh.. well that is a dillema. i guess you could try poking and scraping at its foot and if they are on a rock you can move. it will be a lot easier to take the rock away and peel it off that way. Another good person to ask would be one of youre lfs owners, they have to remove these guys from rocks all the time for sales perpouses(hope i spelled that right)

I always use my finger, and gently peel the foot back.It may take a few minutes.Just be careful and not damage the foot. hth

can I take them out of the water I think I remember reading that I shouldnt and that it is not good for them.

You can take them out, but I personally try to keep them underwater when I remove them from an tank. I will use a bowl from the kitchen and transfer the anemone that way. Again, it won't kill the anemone to take it out of the water. People do that to frag them, I just think it's an easier transition if they aren't lifted from the water.

What I do is lean the rock against the glass and wait for a BTA to climb up. I have had no luck peeling established BTA's off the rocks without damage. The only ones I can peel off the rocks are the ones that are traveling a lot. That is probably why the lfs can sometimes peel them off.

I have some anemones that look identical to those. They keep growing/splitting in my red sea tank that only has PC lights and they retain their bubbles.

Interestingly I put a clone in my 55g that has T5s and it has elongated its tentacles. Weird that a clone behaves differently in a different tank!

+1 for using your finger to get under the foot. Once you get under it is kind of like a suction cup. You can gentle lift and feel it "peel off" but go slow so you don't damage the foot.

well i got my first anemone today! its a green bta with pink tips ive never seen anything like it. And i would not recommend having the anomone out of water for more than a few seconds. i cant imagine air to be good for it , its a sea creature for a reason.:)

chrisstie - Im bet our nems are clones since Im sure we buy/sell/trade in the same circles (I just traded a frag of some kenya tree I got from you). Although you cant see it on the other side of the LR its on is another clone which has elongated its tentacles. So even in the same tank they may act differently. Like you said weird.

ive heard take a ice cube to the foot and it should release....although im never tested this can anyone verify this works?

Powerhead or place a rock on it. Ice cubes and trying to pry does nothing. I had a long tentacle split 8 times now, just put rocks on the splitter and they move.

Anemones out of the water. Mine are out of the water for about 10-15 minutes each week durring water changes. How about when the tide goes out in the ocean?

I once tried to move my bta by moving the rock it is attached to. while finding a place for it, I was holding the rock out of the water and did not notice I was holding the rock upside down. The bta fell down before I found a place to put the rock. This was for about 30 seconds or so. I have read some people do the same to remove a bta. just position the bta upside down. I suppose gravity helped.

Ice didn't work for me.

Ice didn't work for me.

I put some ro/di water in a popsicle tray and made eight popsicles out of water. I thought they would be bigger than icecubes so they wouldn't melt so fast plus I had a handle to hold onto. To make the story short I used all eight on one small RBTA and he didn't move at all.
