I quick question- How long do percs live? I came home from work and my female was swimming awkwardly at surface in a corner. she looked thin and less colorful. she has been in the tank at least 15 years. She looked worse this morning but still alive.
Thanks

Walt

Thank you. that is fascinating. She has been laying eggs for over 10 years. a couple years ago she stopped for almost a year and then started again.

After bobbing around for almost a week... she is back with the male at her egg laying spot. I almost wanted to take her out .. but have seen many fish recover.

I'd just let her do her thing. She might have gotten eggbound, in which case I know what to do for a bird, but not for a fish, except to offer her good food, hoping a missing nutrient will help---and calcium would be my top bet---works to relieve muscles, AND makes up a vital component of eggs. Whatever, you've done a great job keeping her well, and you can't beat old age when it comes round.

She is back in her egg laying spot with the male. no eggs that I have noticed. I feed a human mixed seafood from grocery store. squid, shrimp, clam, oysetrs and clams. sometimes I remember to add Nori and or supplements.

I know this is an old thread but I have just watched my percs spawning again. I've had the female for over 25 years. The male was introduced in 2002 and they have spawned near the foot of their magnifica every two weeks since. That works out at over 400 occasions.

Wow- 25 years is great!! unfortunately she passed after laying eggs one last time. I wish you continued success with your clowns!
