I bought some aptasia today!!

Kill spectrum my foot. Stay in them tanning beds for any time over 20-30 min (i 4get how long the FDA laws say u can run the bed in one secession) with no tanning lotion and see how bad you feel the next morning.remember this bed puts out a 12 hour photoperiod in 20min. that aptasia had no protection. and it TRIPPLED IN SIZE and got a tan. literally. So my conclusion is if your running a uv sterilizer, halide, ect. your making them grow more than normal, probally not 3 times theri size in 15 min, but faster than normal. I dont think it matters what kind of bulb it is. Nor do i care.

if you want to spend the money buying the bulb or whatever to test it go ahead, and post your results here. I am using stuff i have round my house or can get/use 4 free. i plan to spend no money on these experiments. im not trying to be rude but today has been a bad day 4 me and im a bit moody. If you do do this i would be happy to know how it works. Have a good evening.

Okay the bed used in the experiment is running 36 maybe 40 bulbs total'

They are Velocity Extreme bulbs, 100 watts each.

we sat the test tube directly on the bed and turned it on. And yes it got bigger and darker in color just as Shane says.

It has been very interesting reading the potions, concoctions and the comments.....the conclusion is: Bginners is a determined scientist working hard for the better good of all of us! I would like to personally wish him a great day tomorrow and the next! I will stay tuned to the latest breaking scientific discovery for our community. Until then, I am going to introduce 8 carribean peppermint shimp into my tank as soon as FedEx tells me they are here! My apatisia is reproducing too quick to wait any longer!

I really appreciate that.

Methods of Aptasia Control I can't remember everything you've tried, except soy sauce  but here's a thread with some reef safe treatments if you haven't seen it.

Peppys always worked for me but I've never had a bad outbreak. Majanos on the other hand :rolleye1:

As stated in the link by coralreefer, just keeping them under control before you have a large outbreak is the best possible way, if you see one kill it asap, Don't "wait til tommorow" by then one could be three. As they say,an ounce of prevention..........

Shane, you could go to the fish store in cross lanes, their tanks are completely full of that stuff, all in the sand and such. All they would need to do is net it out for you im sure. They dont try to control it, it takes over their tanks, especially the ones that with the corals in them.

IODINE is sometimes used on cuts nd some ppl dose their tanks with it.......i think im gonna test it next...what do you all think?
