Just went out this morning. Skipped this afternoon. All I got was another 50 pages done in my book. No more time until next weekend. I have the first week of november off anyway.
I was on the ground hunting because my safety harness hasn't come in yet. I had a good sized doe come in behind me and I couldn't turn around to get a shot. If my vest was here, I would have had a 15 yard shot, quartering away. I guess that's what I get for not being on the ball and ordering it earlier.
been chasing woodcock/pheasant/grouse. my friend got stranded in his stand saturday. 9 does bedded down within 30 yds of his stand. think he's affaid of deer when he's alone. he was throwing branches and trying to make them run away so he could leave the woods.
I had a good buck in 20 yards Saturday. Only problem is I was trying a new ground blind and I only saw his head on the other side of a big bush. Heard him pawing at a scrape. Thought it was a squirrel at first.
Good luck. I hate that feeling. Hit one 5 years ago that ran forever. Not a drop of blood by the time we found him. Felt like he went a couple miles back and forth.
By some miracle, I found my arrow a good 200 yds away from my stand heading off into the deepest swampiest mess you can imagine. No pass through. Big chunk of muscle and blade bent to hell. Shoulder shot. Makes me sick wounding an animal, but I'm fairly certain at this point he's still alive. Broadside at 15 yrds. A twig? Did he dip? I'm basically catatonic. Biggest deer I've seen from a stand.
The one I tracked forever jumped and I hit a gut shot pass through. Luckily while tracking we ran into a bunch of guys that helped us. Unfortunately sometimes nothing we can do.
That really sucks Mark.
Did you hear a loud crack when you shot?Ive had a shoulder shot and it was a little different sounding.
The aluminum arrow I was shooting broke into 2 pieces on impact, one of whitch hit a vital.
I mean if I replay it in my head, like I've done for the past 16 hours, I suppose. But there was so much blood and a great blood trail to boot, but I found the arrow so far away I can only assume it didn't do much, especially looking at the blades. I think it was all deltoid.
Anyone have any luck today? Just froze in my stand. Only saw a turkey around 140 yards away. Think its the area more than anything. Brother in law bought property 5 years ago and we still have yet to take a deer off it. Coyotes probably aren't helping. They sounded off just as I got back to my car. Thought it was a siren at first. Man they were loud. My brother in law said he had 4 come by after dark Wednesday. Guess we have a new season to look forward to after deer season is over.
