I-Tech Skimmer Club .

I am waiting for mine i order it last wensday it should be ready some time soon, Ican not wait to see it running on my aquarium.

Anyone know an easy way to make a skimmer stand?

Here is a pic. of my DIY skimmer stand that was used on an ETSS RD II.

This was extra PVC I used as risers for installing live rock in a DSB display tank. It became the home for many calcareous worms and the like in my sump.

How big is that stand? The pieces of PVC? I'm figuring between the pump and the skimmer that it would need to be a pretty big stand. I need to make it about 4-5" tall as well.

Milhouse,

Server blew out a message I tried to send earlier the AM. The footprint of the stand is 4"X8" and was made for a ETSS Reef Devil being powered by a Mag 9.5. This is a downdraft skimmer so the pump sat on the bottom of the sump, only the skimmer was elevated. The PVC as mentioned in a previous post is 3" and I cut mine to roughly that height to elevate the skimmer to the level I wanted it running at based on the level I was keeping the water at in that particular sump.

I've seen pics (I think on the ATB thread in a guys frag tank) of a stand constructed using 90 degree elbows and standard PVC pipe of about 3/4" to make a nice solid base with an acrylic top. If you have space for the skimmer (l x w), you should have no problem fitting the stand for it unless height is an issue.

Hope this helps you get that baby up and running!

Looking foward to how the small will work with the tunze 9410 pump when it is avalible. I talked to Roger at tunze today, he said down to a few weeks befor they are in. John said it would be nice to have a dedicated pump avalibe specificly for the skimmer.

Also very interested. I've been watching this thread from the beginning. Due to the constraint of my sump space (10.5" x 11.5"), most of the newer design skimmers don't fit. The small cone is like a blessing to me. According to John's response, the small's foot print without pump is 8.75" x 6.50". Can any of the small cone owners give me an idea of the space required with the pump install?

As far as I know, the DOC skimmer 9410 is already available in LFS and the price on the 9410.040 pump is also shown on Tunze's website. Don't understand why the pump is still not available yet.

stevensun, the pump for the 9410 was made in the same number batch as the skimmer to get it on the market, so no extra pumps. Roger at Tunze said they are expecting a shippment of skimmer pumps in the next few weeks. That is what I am holding out for as well.

That's cutting it close . The Aquabee is right about there on the 11.5 attached . The width is more like 7 with a lil free play as the base is 6 inches internal . I am sure if John put a Aquabee on it himself it would shorten the length . The length could be shortened more if one sat the pump in an upright position and placed the skimmer on a stand . U would need a 3/4 elbow to do this .

Thanks Plato, that makes sense.

mordibv, thank you for your suggestion. I've thought about the possibility of incorporating an elbow or even two elbows to reposition the pump. My only concern is whether the pump's performance will be cut back by such modification. What do you think?

Also, what would be the possible problem if I put a sicce pump on the small? microbubbles? Has anyone experimented on that?

This is a great skimmer and well built.

Gary

Wow, that looks like some funky, nasty skimmate there. Almost looks like fudge

I would think on 1 eblow it wouldn't slow down performance too much but two would definitely alter things a bit . Bounce both questions off of John . He would have the best experience to offer a solid answer .
BTW I was adding more carbon in the sump and couldn't figure out what the H#@l smelled so bad . I didn't think about it until I realized it was the skimmmate in the collection cup .
It's about the same color of Gquinn's but maybe a tad lighter .

Well I went Ichy things the other day and just the housing of the 125 unit costs $280.00 and there is a 4-6 week waiting list ... saw this monster there.....And yes it's an I-tech

when is someone going to put a Tunze pump on the small and post some pics.

I would love to see it too but I don't think it's needed . I emptied my cup this morning . I just got home from work .I just took this pict to share This is a pleasant surprise . The bubbles are way smaller now and it doesn't burp anymore .

I think you just sold me on not bothering to wait for the Tunze. Do you dose vodka on your system? How often do you feed?

Thanks,
Chris

Mordibv, What pump you using? When did yours stop "burping?" How long you had yours running? Also, do you not have your airline hooked up to the riser pipe?

Thanks! You got the small I-tech right?

Thanks a ton!

I use BioDigest for bac and use Biofuel . I add trace elements etc during the week . Last night was my Reef Booster ,Coral Vite , Marine C and Chromoplex . I turn the skimmer off for a half hour after lights out . I turn it on then back it way back .It would froth like crazy if I left it dialed in . (WETSKIM ) .Skimmer is flat as a pancake . I redial it in the morning to a little past the third notch .
I do run Tunze and Zeovit rocks in a large Merlin filter .
It looks like a soup mix at night with the Amino's and etc but by morning it's a lil cloudy then crystal clear sometime later .
I do play with a lot of supplements but don't want to get slammed for doing it my way . I will be going full tilt Brightwell or Zeovit . Still figuring out what's most cost effective . I think the water clarity would be better if I used some form of bac every day . The Biodigest doesn't hold the clarity until the fortnightly time frame .(Just my observation ).
Yes I change 10% of the water every week like clockwork .Carbon kneaded etc + my other bottles of so called pollution .

Stevensun I do not think you can put sicce on a small maybe a new Tunzee 9410 pump but it is not out yet.

I'll email John for his advise on this. Report back later.
