I-Tech Skimmer Club .

No, this is the first I have heard of this. I use it in all of my tanks, and my P04 is always zero. I will have to look into this.

PO4 can read 0 on test kits but the only true measurement is a Hanna Photometer. Phosphates are always present to an extent. Searching RC and Google will bring up quite a few links to folks saying eggcrate does leach some PO4. Someone even left it in RO water where it PO4 measured 0 beforehand and tested positive after introducing egg crate and leaving for a while. If I recall correctly it eventually leached out completely, though. Not sure it's a big deal, but I'd just as soon use acrylic :)

thinking of upgrading from an octopus 160 extreme on my well stocked 90G SPS tank. can anyone speak about, from personal experience, the i-techs versus octopus extremes, ATBs, vertexes?

thanks

I've had many skimmers over the years including Aquamedic, Euro Reef, ASM G3, ATB and both an I-Tech 100 and 200 skimmers.

Aquamedic was a joke, Euro Reef rs-80 a little better than Aquamedic, G3 a little better than ER, ATB a little better than G3 and the I-Tech 100 smoked them all. You can go to the I-Tech website www.i-techskimmers.com to see the ATB running beside the I-Tech 100. For your size tank I would HIGHLY reccomend the 100 model. I have been very impressed with the I-Tech.

Thanks Chris for sharing your own experience.
Just curious, what was the model ATB? 840?
And were you using tunze pumps on your 100 and 200?

100 running less than 3 days. This is what it did in less than 10 hours on my 75 gallon. That's a ReeFlo dart next to the waste container for size reference. I'm convinced. Very pleased. Water is clearer than ever.

Thanks for your feedback Chris. Whe you say the 100 smoked all of them do you mean it smoked the 200 also??? Why do you HIGHLY recommend the 100 and not the 200? I have a 90+20 system now but foresee going up to a 120+x within 2 years. I would rather overskim a bit than underskim a bit and I want this next skimmer to be my last...

Thanks!

I made the same switch on a 60g cube mixed reef, and am completely satisfied with the move from the OctoExtreme/MSX160 to the i-Tech 100; and I'm only running the aquabee pump. There are few products I swear by in the reefing hobby, and i-tech skimmers are on that short list. The skimmers work as advertised and praised by other owners, and they are backed with customer service that is equal to what I feel to be the gold standard for the industry.

What did you run the 200 on? I still am not clear why you feel so strongly about the 100 over the the 200...

I'm joining the club, i'm purchasing the 200 without the pump and going to use my sicce pk2500 until i can get the tunze. should i get the large atb ppw?
to improve the performance?

Nowhere does my post say a single word about the 200. If I had a larger system/bioload, I may have opted for the 200. You're question was "...can anyone speak about, from personal experience, the i-techs versus octopus extremes, ATBs, vertexes?" The point of my post was that I migrated from an Octo Extreme 160, and found the i-Tech 100 to be vastly superior.

In reviewing the thread, I think you may have confused my post with the other Chris' post.

Basically, I feel that John's customer service is top notch, and his designs work really well. If a 200 would be better suited to your tank, run with it. I'd talk to John about your concerns regarding 100 vs. 200, and take a look through this thread to gauge the system volumes and bioloads people are running with each skimmer. The TOTM posted earlier in the thread has done quite well with the 100, but perhaps your future system volume plans justify the 200, only you and your unique bioload can answer that question.
