IceCap 3K Gyre Generation Flow Pump

At 100% i can hear it if im close to the tank. from across the room i cannot. However, that is subjective. One mans tolerable is another mans unbearable.

at anything less than 60% i cant hear it at all.

with the new 3k out and at a great price its tempting to purchase 2 and 2 MP40w or just go with 2 XF250 or 150's instead.

I have two xf250 on my 6' tank but I feel the flow still lacking so I have two MP60 as well.

Correct. Although as others have stated -- If you only need one this is probably great, if you need two the savings aren't quite as nice, considering you wont be able to link them together or use with Apex.

I dunno if I'd say $130 savings over 2- maxspect 230 gyre isn't huge savings and if you got 2 of the 250 it would be almost a $200 savings. I think the thing is people need to weigh what's important to them and the pro's and con's of each.

If you can live without all the fancy features I think it will be a great low budget gyre. Plus many times people will find ways to run things like this or someone will make a cable or something that makes it work with the apex. I could be wrong but I've seen it in the past with other products.

Obviously, they were thinking of the budget reefer market and people who don't want to pay 300+ for a gyre. I think if these are reliable they could be a great option for those who don't want to spend a ton of money. My concern is long term reliability..which we won't know for a while.

I just ordered one from BRS. I currently have two RW-8s and two generic Chinese "2000 gph" powerheads in my 125. I also had an RW-15 which provide plenty of flow but after having two die I am done with them. Right now with just the 4 powerheads I don't have good flow and I have piles of fish poop piling up.

I am hoping this will replace the two generic Chinese powerheads so I will have three powerheads total. I will use my two RW-8s hooked up to my Apex to create random flow and have the Gyre pulse.

I am not new to the gyre game. I owned the Jebao knockoff which I promptly returned after realizing it was garbage (constant noise, unreliable, etc.). I also owned the original Maxpect Gyre for a while but I didn't feel like it was a quality product so I sold it.

I'll report back with my findings in a few days. I work next to my tank 8-9 hours a day so noise is a big deal to me so I am hoping it is quiet.

Keep us posted as I have used/using similar pumps to you. Im curious to your thoughts. But do you think the 3k will be enough to cover a 6' take end to end or are you placing it on the back wall facing forward?

Anyone think they'll eventually come out with a single model (half of the current) or a slightly less powerfull model? Will that be woth it or just running this one 10-20% for small tanks? The price with controller is nice but kinda awkward to put this in a small tank and run it so low, lol

The opinion of people that have experience with Maxpect and knock-offs and now the Ice Cap is highly valuable! Looking forward to your review.

Looking real hard at this for my new 75g build. I just started my tank last night. Water is cycling now. So im not in a rush. Anticipating reviews in the next week or so :)

I am very curious about this as well. I had just started looking at gyres for my 36 gallon bowfront, but can't tell if this one (or the maxspects for that matter) will cause a hurricane in the tank. I am following along as well to hear what others think of the 3k

I've never had a gyre. How much do I need to worry about this thing breaking my tank?

You Probably don't -- Just don't have it at 100% unless you have a large tank, and I mean LARGE tank, 180+ gallons.

No experience with this exact IceCap 3k gyre, but Gyre's definitely ha a wide and strong flow pattern in general.

Yeah I mentioned that earlier in the thread myself. Additionally the SD card for firmware updates will allow people to potentially create their own firmware and unlock a ton of features.
