Oh yes, no worries. I bought him shortly after I bought the tank, but then traded him for some corals after he did his job :) He now has a wonderful home in a very very well established 75 with many other tanks nearby to go to and clean.

I'll post some more rcent photos soon.

that's great--suggest you start your own build thread so other reefers can follow your progess

Well I'm brand new to the reef/saltwater thing. I've had a few freshwater tanks in my youth but I've always wanted to get into salt. I live in Sacramento CA and work in the SF Bay Area, yes... that is a little bit of a commute but houses ain't cheap out here! Been on Reef Central for a couple of weeks trolling and I figured it's time to register and get involved, everyone I talk to about reef tanks tell me this is the place to be :D . Setup my 125 and started cycling yesterday, everything except lights for right now, haven't figured out what to run yet. I want to be able to have the option to grow pretty much anything and was thinking about 2x250 MH with supplemental Flourescent lighting but I want to build it myself so I can get exactly what I need and maybe save a few bucks :rolleye1: Tank is 72" long I think 20" or 22" tall, I'm too tired right now to go measure it. Lots of pics and will post a build thread once I get them uploaded. I have tons of questions and am looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Hi, my name is Brandi. I'm 28 and I have been keeping tanks on and off since I was 16. Glad to meet yall !

[welcome]

I hope you will setup your own thread and show some of the pictures of your tank.

Hi, my name is Eric. I just joined RC last month. Currently I have a 12 gallon nano cube that has been up and running for 6 months. I went through the pain of the algae growth at the beginning but have a stable system ever since. One of my first early mistake was buying some SPS (acropora) without knowing the full requirements. Soon enough, they turned white and died. The lighting and flow wasn't enough. Since then, I have only put starter corals such as toadstool, frog spawns, zoos, and mushrooms in my tank. They are all doing well now.

There is so much information here on RC. Since joining, I have been inspired by looking at some of the members' tanks and the TOTMs. I have this bright idea to startup a 120 g reef aquarium. I was going to look on craigslist and used equipments for most of my purchases. My taste has quickly changed. I now have all of my equipments beside the lighting and a couple of powerhead. I am going all out with a starphire glass tank, euro-reef cs180 skimmer, marco rocks. I am still looking to order the ATI powermodule and tunze nanostream. Now the hard part is convincing my wife that this is a worthwhile hobby for all of the money that I am putting in. Once my tank is up and running, I will be looking at an empty tank with rocks for the next 6 months.

Hi Eric
<img src="/images/welcome.gif" width="500" height="62"><br><b><i><big><big>To Reef Central</b></i></big></big>

I took the name WaterKeeper because I had a tank with only RO/DI water sitting around for a few months when I first set up my first reef tank. Sounds like you are doing things right.

I am going to have an empty tank for a while not by choice. I am not the most patience person so hopefully this hobby will help with that. It will be empty with just the rocks and a few fishes because I will have run out of money by the time all the equipments are in place.

I have found, from past experince, that fish do not do well in an empty tank. You might wish to hold off on those for awhile too. ;)

Hi everyone. I've been on the board for a while, but just started posting. I've been in the hobby for about seven years. My latest tank is about a year old, set up when I moved from New York to Southern California. It's a 48 gallon tall, the same footprint as a 30 cube but about 50% higher. Here are some quick specs:

48 gallon tall tank with custom sump
~40 lbs of live rock, stacked on pvc pipe.
ASM G1x skimmer
Ehiem 1260 return pump
150 HQI sunpod
plankton doser

Mix of LPS, SPS, softies and sponges
Pair of ORA stubby ocellaris clowns,
5 chromises
Sunburst Anthias

So, I'm returning after several years... I was pretty much an expert now I have millions of questions all over again! I love this hobby...

Somebody tell me.. Did T-5's get big? They were fairly new around the time I checked out....

SKremk.. Hello, you posted that you stacked the rock using pipe....That's the first question that came to mind when I saw your pic... Can you please explain how you did it? Drilled the rock??

Suzy, I first did a dry run and figured out how I wanted to stack the rocks, then I drilled them with a 1/2" concrete drill bit. I then put the pvc pipe on the bottom rock and stacked the rest on top of it. I added extra supports to certain areas made from underwater epoxy that keep the tower from shaking.

Name is kevin and of course I'm a complete newbie with saltwater. Anyone that has useful information for me would be great. I was jsut handed a free 75 gal but I only recieved the tank so I need..... well everything else. Anyone who might know the "best" equipment to fill out my tank please let me know so I know where to look and what to look for when I start purchasing parts.

Is it possible to have a tank with just a filter. or will i need some sort of circulation system in place such as a sump. My local guy is directing me to the Marineland emperor 400 and he said that should be more than enough to keep my tank going without external parts.
