Hey- I'm a college student from NY and its a good thing I found this board. I've had a few fresh water tanks in the past and I am looking forward to setting up a salt water tank now.

There's a ton of info on here- its great but also overwhelming. I should have my tank started in the coming weeks. See you guys around!

Hi folks,
My name is Rich, This is my second post here. I've had a SW tank for about 2 yrs. FOWLR. This is as far as I got.
I have a 90g w/
150 lbs LR
150 lbs LS
Fluval FX5
1 maxi jet 1200
1 Koralia 3
1 Yellow Tang
1 Rainbow Wrasse
2 Clowns
a few Damsels
I've been reading here for about 2 weeks & bowing to the experienced.
Today I received a Nova Extreme Pro HO T5 6 bulb ,( was this a good choice? In my price range) until now just using a single Flourescent that came with my freshwater tank.
Salinity runs 1.025 I've been using tap water (town supplied)
Food includes flakes & mostly Brine Shrimp.
Been researching the hobby & am ready to get into it a lot more. I'm pretty bored with the current look of my tank. Needs more color & action. From what I read my next move should be a sump so I've been looking at skimmers & size of sump. I think I may be able to get a 30L in the bottom.
Currently my problem is I question what this brown algea is that's multiplying on my rocks. My recent additions are 2 LR about 3 lbs 1 month ago & the Rainbow Wrasse about 2 weeks ago.
That's were I stand at this time.
Thank you in advance to all who dedicate themselves to helping people like me.

Hello all, I am fairly new to RC I've got to admit I've been lurking for sometime. I'm in between tanks at the moment, my latest build was stalled when the back pain of my 29 Bio-cube build cracked due to over tightening the bulk head for the drain. Yes another lesson learned. Damn. I have purchased another tank from a fellow Reefer. It's 30x30x24 two sided Starphire. I haven't picked it up yet. My Rock is sitting in a food grade plastic barrel with a heater and my 9.5 return pump circulating, Picking up a used Vertex 180 skimmer tomorrow and a 60 gl sump on Sat. I've got to get a stand built and I'm going with a retro 400 over sized pendant and a ballast that'll light up 250 or 400 SE bulbs.

I'm sure this won't be my last build but it's surely gonna be fun. I'll try and do a build thread. Looking forward to interacting with you all. Jim

New to saltwater tanks

New to saltwater tanks

I'm new to saltwater tanks. After having my 80 gallon freshwater tank for a while, I started my 29 gal. saltwater tank a couple months ago. I bought established water and I have about 30 pounds of live rocks. Also a powerhead and filter, mated pair of percula clownfish, blue damsel, green mandarin, snail, and a bunch of hermit crabs. I'm trying to get a hang of saltwater tanks before I upgrade to bigger tank. So far I'm loving it

My name is Wells and I have had a 29gal FOWR tank and just set up a 90gal. I just put in the live sand and live rock. I am waiting to move my fish until the tank can cycle and be ready.
My new tank has dbl. bright LEDs and the temp. is 78 degrees, which is 4 degrees higher than my old tank. Is the temp difference just from the LEDs?

Hey all!!
My name is Tony, I am fairly new to the S/W world but have had MANY fresh/brackish fish tanks. Today marks the first time I will be facing the moving of an established tank. Since I am getting married in June we have decided to get a bigger place so now the fishes have to relocate as well. I have a 125 gallon long with a stand and canopy I custom built out of maple. I just purchased a new ProFlex Model 4 sump and I am really excited about finally getting it out of the box. I will be posting some pictures of the original setup and some pictures of the new setup. Wish me luck and cross your fingers the lil guys can make it.

Introduction to Reef Tanks

Introduction to Reef Tanks

Hi everyone, Tony C here from Phoenix AZ. I wanted to introduce myself to you all. Thank you for such great information. I am currently in the research mode before making any purchases for a new Reef Aquarium. I have been reading and learning everything I can from all the post's and info I get from this web site.
What a great way to learn about this new bottomless money pit I too shall call a "Hobby". I am currently reading about the overflow of the reef tank and the design aspect of it. Any comments will be appreciated. I plan on using a tank with dimensions of 60"x24"x24". I will be building a custom made stand which will be longer than the tank, around 72"-76". I plan on having a custom or possible DYI sump, refugium and of course Protein Skimmer. I will eventually send pictures when I get everything off the ground so to speak. I may take longer than the average person as I research everything methodically and learn everything i possibly can each step of the way on configuring my new
"Reef System" so to speak. Once again, thanks for the wealth of information and I look forward to any input you may have.............

hi , my name is phil this is my first time membership of a reef forum , ive been in the hobby for six years and to be honest i only no the basics well i really just no how two keep good water but dont no much about corals and there names and fish as well i always just went to my lfs and said i want that one and things always seemed to work out for me , except for this time around i just set up a new hex i dont really no the size but it holds alot of water im guessing between 40 and 60 gallons just to give a run down the setup is an aqua clear 70 ,2 750 evos, k2 viper 150 mh, bio cube skimmer, 30lbs lr, 10 dead , 2 green chromis and three disbar anthias and that is where i messed up i put them in right after a full cycle and had no idea how fragile these fish were there was a small amonia spike i think cause i did a fishless cycle anyway i burnt the tail on one and they all looked like they were going to die so i ran to my lfs and got the only thing that had half a chance dr.tims one and only, needles to say they all survied and are doing great but now its time to educate on corals and fish i mean i no whats reef safe and whats not but thats about it, i want this tank to be really nice and i dont want to hurt any more fish or put fish that even though i no are reef safe into a small tank like i did so if somone could head me, or navigate me to were to start reading on here that would be great.

Hello Everyone,
I currently have a 29 gallon tall FOWLR it has been up and running for close to 3 years. I am in the process of upgrading to a 90 gallon trimless (if I can find the tank that is) with custom built stand lighting and sump. I came here to fill my head with knowledge so I can minimize my mistakes.
