If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Howdy all,
I just picked up a BioCube 14 today and I am looking at starting something new and exciting. THe only thing that I used to do with fish is catch them and release sometimes depending on how hungary I was. I do not have any knowledge what so ever in the field. My brother actually got me into this, he works for S.A. in TN. I am looking to gaining some knowledge in this field and then hopefully getting a larger tank in the future. This has always been something that I wanted to do in the past just never got around to it. Look forward to hearing from ya!

Hello from a reborn hobbyist

Hello from a reborn hobbyist

Hello to all great advisors!
I am re-starting my 75 gl tank which I took down over 10 years
ago when I moved.
I have built a 29 gl sump and I am using my old Berlin venturi skimmer, in the sump for now.
Plan to use DSB in sump only with some algie also.
only want about an inch of sand in tank, (low profile)

Would greatly appreciate any great advise or suggestions, in setting up the sump, what type of sand, how deep, best sand for main display tank!

Thank you

carl

Newbie!!! Here!!!!

Newbie!!! Here!!!!

Hey Guys
I just bought a 55 Gallon saltwater Tank. I started last week. This is my first Saltwater Tank. I added some photos with what I have so far. I added some Live sand, about 50lbs of Live rock so far. I have 5 damsels. I'm on my way this weekend on building a Refugium. Just waiting for my stuff to come in the mail. What I really need help on is how the water testing works and knowing what is what. Does anyone know of a good water test kit I should buy before I just go pick one out. Something easy enought for me to understand at first since I'm a Noob lol. Thanks

New lobster on the rock.

New lobster on the rock.

New guy on the forum!!!
Hi all,

My name is Bill, nice to meet you all. I used to have a larger reef tank about 55 gallons about 7 years ago, but school, new wife, and such got in the way and i had to give it up for a while.
now that my new son is going to be born in the next few weeks, i decided i was going to make him a nano reef for a night light in his room. I just bought a Fluval EDGE a couple of days ago for 10 bucks, so i figured i would modify it into a nano reef. Nothing huge, just a few small rock, maybe a hammer coral, and some other softies. A shrimp and a few small crabs and such. Im rusty with the names since i havent been at it for a while, so please bear with me. But what i am hoping is that maybe some of you have modified these EDGE's into salt water tanks, and know what i need and where to get them for as low cost as possible.

Anyways hope to get to know you all better, and i would love to hear all your ideas and such. Ill make a build thread when i get the stuff together.

My name is Steve and I like this hobby very much. I started with a 20 gallon tank freshwater tank 20 years ago. 3 years ago I took the plunge into sw tanks. I currently have a mixed reef 250 g plus.

I run reactors for gfo and carbon. I also run t5 lighting with ati bulbs. I don't have an auto top off but I'm going to set it up soon.

I do 50 gallon waterchanges every 2 weeks for the past year. I dont have a lot of coral but it will come along. My favorite piece I have is a Cali tort.

Hi everyone. My name is Sam. I have been into freshwater planted aquariums and south american cichlids for a long time now. I work at a LFS here in San Antonio which takes up a lot of my time. I could not have found a more perfect job to have while I attend college. I have been setting up my saltwater tank for over a year but finally got it running with water a month ago. Yesterday I added my first tank inhabitants and am very excited. I'll be spending a lot of time on this forum reading and learning.

I have had countless freshwater tanks, mainly planted, but have one saltwater. Its a 46 gallon bowfront. I currently have 30lbs live rock and 40lbs live sand. I currently have inverts that I added in last night. 10 red leg hermit crabs, 5 nasarrius snails, 3 turbo snails, 1 emerald crab and 1 purple lobster. I'm filtering with an eheim 2213 and am getting a custom hang on back refugium made. I am going to see how the inverts do for a few weeks then am looking to add a sea star.

The big reason I wanted to start saltwater was the idea of tons of coral. I plan to just do soft corals. I am still trying to decide on fish. I REALLY want to try leaf fish and anglers but am not sure yet as I love inverts. I have a load of freshwater shrimp and inverts and like seeing the similarities and differences in saltwater.

So thats where I'm at! Any comments will help I've done a lot of research but still a noob here.

Hi Reef Central,
I am not new to the hobby, but I am new to RC. I currently have a 150 gallon dislplay tank, but with a large refugium, frag tank and sump, I have a net water volume of about 380 gallons. My aquarium is mainly sps dominated with some lps, and I am very much addicted to reefkeeping! This is my second reef aquarium as I previously kept a 29 biocube. My current reef is about 5 months old and developing really well. The most unique aspect of my system is that I am using a kr92 led light with great results so far!

Hi all,

I'm from UK, quite fresh in the business, had tropical for 6 months - loved it sooo much that decided to go for marine. bought a 125L, still struggle to get Nitrates down, but i'm getting there!! Fish tank seems much happier now except the green algae (I guess Nitrates and a bit of Phosphates has smth to do with it).

That's how it looks at the moment:
