Hello I am new here... I have been reading this forum and trying to learn before I start buying. I hav not bought anything yet but I pretty much decided on 150 gal. I had FW fish in the past but now I want to try SW. First thing I'd ask is if anybody can recommend some good up to date books I can read? At this point I keep going back and forth on whether I want to do reef or FOWLR. I guess it'll just hit me at some point. Right now I am just a little fearful of the corals etc... Them seem like something for the advanced aquarist.
Thank you
Donald

Hello, im going to consider myself somewhat new again. Been a few years since tearing down my 75g fowlr setup and getting back into things and relearning everything. At the moment im working on a 29g reef and still new to corals. Been cycling about a month and just introduced 2 green chromis. Hoping to introduce some starter coral in june. I learned most of what I knew from my last set up on here and hoping to relearn what has been forgotten.

I am not new to tanks but new to salt water. I have kept freshwater fish for 20+ years and make the leap to salt water last year. My tank sat empty with no fish, just water and rocks for over six months while I worked up the nerve to put in fish. After learning where to buy and where not to buy I have 1 blue and yellow damsil, two very transparent yet colorful fish, have no clue what they are called, and one clown. A small rock with three mushrooms on it and several hermit crab things. Not sure where to go next.

What is FOWLER? Some thing Live rock? I know how you feel about the fear thing, I am still scarred to death of killing the entire tank. I have one rock with three little mushrooms on it. I started small for sure. I did find a great place to buy them with really knowledgeable staff, that really helps a lot.
I found more info from talking to fellow aquarium owners and from sights like this rather than books, all though I do have saltwater aquariums for dummies, I like that one. I am determined to have a very large reef tank one day, a dream of mine, but for now I am happy with my 40 gallon bow front with some rocks and what not.

Been looking around here for several months and thought I should intro myself.

My name is Jason and am very new to SW aquariums. Have a buddy that I will blame for getting me involved and been helping with his tank for about a year.

Have most everything I need with the exception of substrate, as I am still trying to get my head around DSB or SSB, and which would be best for me but I know I will have sand. Once I get it figured out I will be able to start cycling.

Looking forward to all the great help that you experienced reefers can provide!

Hi(: im sarah. I have kept african cichlids and many other fish for quite some time. Today i set up my first saltwater tank. As of right now its realllyy cloudy because of live sand. Its 55 gallon and going to be FOWLR.

Okay, so I figured out what FOWLR means. I have some coral so I am not that. lol I am finding new "critters" in my tank every week! How is it that new life just springs up in my closed environment?
These clear white very small "bugs" are on my mushroom rock, I have seen two so far. Where did they come from and should I be worried?

PS. Sarah, the pink is really hard to read, it's to light. ;o)

Hey Reefers, My name is Steve and I am by no means a master at this. BUt what man thinks about he becomes, right? Anyways I am fairly new to the hobby this time around. I succesfully kept reef tanks when i was a kid growing up in the Keys. But now I live in Ohio and am now Married with 3 beautiful daughters and they love the tanks. Me and the girls have worked on the new tank and it has been an absolute pleasure. My wife dosnt even complain and actually she has been learning water chemistry to hel[p take care of them while I am away. Its great cause she dosnt complain to much about the money I spend. HeHe!

I look forward to sharing stories with you all and learning from everyone.

Hello all, thought I'd introduce myself as I've been a part of this forum a while now learning all I can about this hobby.
I'm Dan and, yes, I'm a reefaholic. I live in the Kansas City area with my lovely young family.
I purchased an AGA reef ready 125gal about a year ago and have been slowly acquiring equipment for my setup and just recently purchased my skimmer and now feel ready to fill the tank and take the plunge.
Reef Central has been an invaluable resource for my endeavor, and will continue to be in the future.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help thusfar...this forum has been a wealth of information...glad people will take the time to help the rookies learn from theri mistakes instead of just sitting back and letting us screw up..wish i would have found ths site way before i ever filled my tank lol...thanks again

Hello everyone. I am new to the saltwater world and my tank has been up and running for just over 3 weeks now. The freshwater world just got too boring for me and my wife (even though we love those fish too) and we wanted something more. Found a killer deal on a tank and a stand and the rest was history.

Current setup:
100g tank
2 - Cascade 1500's
CPR Bak Pak 2 Skimmer (HOB)
Fluval 300W Digital Heater

Working on a sump tank and getting a real skimmer. Right now there is just over 50 lbs of live rock in the tank with a damsel and two clown fish. Tank has been up and running for 3 weeks now. In another 2-3 weeks I am looking to add a dogface puffer as the next fish and then who knows! Plenty of room under the stand to grow the tank, but this is also still a learning process for us so don't be too harsh on what we have! I am also already getting ideas for the next tank once we feel confident to upgrade.

Hey everyone.

I'm Mark, from Tulsa Ok.

New here to the SW world. Found a perfectly working Nanocube DX 12 gallon tank sitting next to a dumpster.

I have learned so much from searching and reading the great tutorials you guys have.

Thanks.
