If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I have been registered for a while but didn't post/contribute much. I hope to change that now. I have two 180s and plan to move so I will need advice on moving tanks vs. selling and restarting. I am still a bit of a noob... even though I have been doing this a few years, I wasn't that dedicated to it at first and made a lot of mistakes.

Hey all,

New to the forum and brand new to saltwater. I currently have a freshwater hatchery (a little over 900 gallons) where I raise freshwater angelfish, ABN, CPDs and bronze cory cats. I have recently added some dwarf cichlids (african), 4 types of freshwater shrimp, and 2 native species - pygmy sunfish and florida flagfish. So why am I here you wonder? A friend/customer of mine is a pet shop owner and reef guru (been fragging for years now) needs some help with his maintenance business and has asked me to learn enough about saltwater to help him expand this side of his business. I have agreed and have a lot to learn. Thanks in advance for all I will be learning.

Hello, my name is Betty Mae and I am extremely new to reef/saltwater keeping. I kind of feel like its keeping me, but it is well worth it. My only net access is my phone so sometimes my wording is all funky.

I have a Biocube 8 nano system, with live rock and live sand, mated pair of Accilaris (sp?) Clownfish (female named Slick, male named Flick) and 4 snails called Do, Ray, Me and Fa.

Plans are:
Cleaner shrimp
Pulsating Umbrella Zenia soft coral
Kenya Tree soft coral
Some polyps
Not sure ,but want, another fish.

This tank was started for my daughter. She helps me with everything, from water changes to feeding.

I am not sure how to post pictures, or much else, so any help will be much appreciated.

Respectfully,
Betty Mae

Hello everyone from Arizona. I've been working on my 150 gallon for 6 months now and have finally gotten it all going. Been reefing for a decade now but fairly new to the site. Very informative and I love seeing what others have done.

My Awesome Puffer

My Awesome Puffer

Is my reason for starting a marine tank last year.
I have a green spotted puffer, I used to have these guys back in the late 90's, but I didn't know at that time they needed high end brackish/marine as adults.
Right now he is right about 3" and he is in a 29 gallon FOWLR. His future tank is in progress, a 40" x 16" x 20".
I also have a scooter dragonet in another FOWLR. He is eating like a pig and enjoys his shrimp, scallops, squid, mysis, and cyclopseeze.
The scooter and puffer will of course NOT live together :/

Thank you so far for all of the information on the site, and thank you small alien for the scooter help. :)

Hi! My name is Andrew. I'm 13 years old and live in South Jersey. I'm in middle school and love animals, baseball and hockey. I started out in this hobby about a year ago with a 55 gallon fresh water tank and loved it, but always wanted to do salt water. I got a 29gallon bio cube (salt water) that has 3 fish and some coral in it. It's doing so well, that I just got a 75gallon salt water tank for my birthday. It is almost done cycling and I can't wait to get some fish and coral in it!

New to salt water

Hi how are you doing? I have had a 10 gallon fresh water fish tank for some time. Nothing special but I enjoyed it. I just bought a 90 gallon fish tank from Craig's list and would like to start a saltwater tank. I would like to ultimately have a smaller Bio Cube but would like to learn on a larger tank first. I figured that would be best for the fish. Could anyone point me in the right direction for the basics. Things like how much sand I should use, I appreciate it.

new member here, read a lot on here but never signed up, will update my profile a little later, currently redoing my entire setup, 75 gal reef tank with a basement sump, approx 100-110 gallons in the basement

Hey everyone, I'm Ryan, from Huntington Beach, CA...I'm a high school science teacher. I have a 3 gallon picotope with a frog spawn, open brain, zoa, and gsp. It has been running for about 4 months, no problems so far.

I have been browsing the forum for about 6 months now, gathering information so I can set up a 75-100 gallon tank in my classroom this coming school year...my students can really use something beautiful to peak their interest. Any thoughts or recommendations?

See you around.

Newbie in training!!

Newbie in training!!

Hi everyone, I've had a saltwater tank since February 2011. I've wanted a saltwater tank since I was a little kid, now 33 years old with kids of my own, and wish I would have started sooner. Love it! Currently living in Cali for the last six years, due to the military. The wife and I can't wait to move back along the Gulf Coast (I'm from Mississippi, she's from P'cola). Thanks to all those that share their experiences on here, because I'm learning so much!

helllo!!!!! im new :0 I don't have anything setup & I won't for a while! I'm just learning and hopefully have something up by next march. I want to make sure I have the right equipment & knowledge before I make the plunge!

Newbie, need fish identifying.

Newbie, need fish identifying.

Hi all

I 'm new to this hobby - or should i say, addiction - and am both enjoying it and concerned how much its taking over my life!
I've had a 90g saltwater bow-shaped corner aquarium for some 3 months now, stocked with a lot of LR and the following:

- 3 sliver monos,
- 3 yellowtail damsels,
- 3 blennies (i think)
- 3 crabs
- 1 cleaner wrasse (recently introduced)
- one completely unknown fish

as i am a newbie, i hope no one minds my taking the liberty to ask for help in identifying some of the animals in my tank:

i assume this is a blenny (one of three). i'm not sure which species it is as i caught them wild in the Persian Gulf. this one is @2" long:

here's another image of the same fish:

i had one camel shrimp but its completey disappeared. is it possible the crabs ate it?
this is one of three @1"-long unknown crabs i have:

another of my three crabs - two are LR stowaways, one i caught at sea. this one is slightly smaller than an inch. i witnessed it destroy a smaller black crab i also picked up in the wild. so i'm suspicious it may have also been behind the disappearance of said camel shrimp. is my suspicion justified?

finally, anyone any idea as to what this 2" critter is? again, i caught it in the Persian Gulf coast.

the same fish:

thanks.
