If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I started with a 55gal tank and complete setup from Craigslist about a year ago. It's been really great so far! I already wish I would've gotten a larger tank. 150 here I come :). If you ever have the privilege of going to WWC in Orlando, they have a 300gal cube that is everything I could ever want. I hope to have something similar one day. Happy Reefing.

New to RC

New to RC

Hello All,

I would like to say after years of being in the hobby, I finally have succumbed to the pressure and I am now a proud member of RC. Some people may say well why join now....My main reason for joining is to learn what I still do not know about the hobby as well as share my experience with those who can benefit from my past triumphs and failures.

My first tank was a small 8 gallon nickel framed tank with a few neons and angels. By the time I was 11 I had my 1st saltwater tank. Now after 32 years of being in the hobby/industry like most people who love reefing it has turned more into an obsession.

I currently have 3 reef tanks (125g, 180 g, and 225g) and a 45g frag tank.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hello,
My name is Andre, I've been checking in and even asked a few questions, but now with my little Nano tank progressing and some kind answers to my own questions, I feel comfortable to introduce myself. I've recently moved to Kansas City KS. Have always had cold or tropical tanks from a kid (I'm now 44). The price of the Nano Kit, and development of LEDs to make my lighting choice easier (and more energy efficient) lead me to try Marine for the first time. And for the better half, she likes this tank more than anything before. I have livestock experience, including breeding competition, pedigree American Singer Canaries. My early marine experience is addictive. Planning 120g build (tank on order) with 40g sump/Fug. Depending on siting will supply Auto top off from basement, through floor. Nano tank to become small frag/ quarantine tank in due course. Heads up to my local, specialist Fish store. Very friendly, genuine assistance in Overland Park.

Main aim, Watch coral garden grow, using sustainable materials

New Tank 275 gal

New Tank 275 gal

I have had an aquarium for awhile now, but have really started to expand in the hobby. I started with a single 5gal and have now progressed up to a 70gal. Then I found a 275gal . It is a used tank and I was guaranteed that it did not leak (hindsight, I should have had him fill it before I bought it) Anyway, It leaks. It is leaking from the seam between the front and bottom almost in the center. I would like to fix it if possible, I have read a number of articles, but I am unsure if I am up to trying to fix a tank of this size as a noob. Is there anyone that can help me with this issue? Thanks

Hey guys,

My name is Matt and I'm new-ish to the hobby. I had a few fresh water fish tanks when I was growing up and loved it and now I want to get back into the hobby. Although this time I want to try salt water. I recently purchased a 125 gallon tank with a stand and canopy. It came with a wet/dry filter but from what I've been reading, it's pretty much not going to work if I want a reef tank. Anyway, I'm looking forward to talking about this hobby with you guys and appreciate any advice.

Thanks!
Matt

Hi!!! My name is Dorothy. I am fairly new to the hobby. It has been 3 1/2 years since I had my 55 gal.. I was a novice at best. I now have a 90 pre drilled that I looking forward to setting up. I kept my sand and rock however all of my equipment either was ruined or broken during several moves. I am currently attempting to put together a "shopping" list of appropriate equipment. I desperately need help putting this list together. There I are so many brands and types I am not sure what to get. Thanks!

Hey all,

I am new to the hobby with a lot of fresh water experience but totally new to the reef aquarium world.

I have successfully set up my 60 gallon Marineland rimless cube with Marineland stand. I have a 20 gallon tall with a reef octopus 110 int working its magic. I am currently waiting for the rock to cure, my tank to cycle, and for my bank account to recover lol.

yay first post!

Hello, my name is Toi and I'm new as well. I'm starting my second small saltwater tank to get back accoladed with the process. I think I may have a partially dead live rock though. So I may ask a lot of questions. Please bare with me.

Hi Guys

I'm new to the hobby and have only had a tank for about 8 months. I have 2 tanks, a small 100L tank and a 400L tank. For now I have many many questions and very little answers:D

I hope to find some here.

Cheers

Hello foks. My name is Mike and I am new to saltwater tanks. I have decades of fresh water experience, most recently a 100 gal cichlid tank which I broke down and sold last summer.

3 weeks ago I started a 29gal nano reef tank which is cycling very nicely with a combination of live and dry rock, 2 clowns, a damsel, 1 long tentacle anemone, a couple of small blue hermits, a few small snails, a turbo snail and an emerald crab. 2"-3" sand.

I have a 24" HOB refugium. LEDS on the display and the refugium. Two pumps on a wavemaker to keep things moving.

The site has been very useful in my research, so thank you.

The avatar is a hitchkicker in i discovered in my refugium and I am concerned it may be a medusa worm, so I'll start a new thread to help with the ID and disposal (if recommended).

New to reef keeping

New to reef keeping

Hi, my name is Ryan. My girlfriend, Kate, and I have started our first reef tank. We are quickly becoming obsessed with the hobby 😄👍. We have a 29 gallon BioCube with the following inside:
Fish: 2 clown, 1 watchman goby, 1 bicolored blenny,1 anemone (can't remember the species name).
Cleanup: 1 pencil urchin, 3 turbo snails, 1 sally light foot crab, 1 emerald crab, 1 Peppermint shrimp, 6 hermit crabs, 10 dwarf hermit crabs, 6 algae snails.
Equipment: Coralife BioCube 29 gallons, Lights (Coralife 10,000K/36 Watt White and 36 Watt Actinic Blue, stock lighting, on for 8 hours a day), Fluval Sea powerhead 425 gallon/hour (turns on and off for 30 min intervals), Coralife BioCube Mini ultraviolet sterilizer.
Other: 20 lbs live sand, 25 lbs live rock.
Our tank seems to be doing well. Temp and water parameters staying at normal, except our nitrite is a little high, but we have started dosing with a stabilizer (1 cap full/day). We hope to start adding soft corals in the next few weeks. We will also be adding a Coralife BioCube protein skimmer next week.
Excited to be involved in this new hobby and want to achieve optimal results, so any tips or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks much!

Hi all, ive been lurking this forum for a while, just thought i would finally introduce myself. i have been keeping aquariums for about 23 years, since i was a little kid. i kept fresh water tanks as a youth and moved to marine FOWLR set ups. i loved keeping lions and puffers but took a break from the hobby for a few years when my life got super busy but now im back in and getting into my first reef set up.

im hoping to get some answers to my many questions, and also hoping to contribute as well.
