New to Reef Tanks

New to Reef Tanks

My name is Matt. I have previously had a 50 gallon aggressive FOWLR tank. In the tank I housed the following:
- Maroon Clownfish
- Snowflake Eel
- Fu Manchu Lionfish
- Juvenile Huma Huma Triggerfish
I eventually had to break tank down and left the hobby for the past 5 years. Now coming back I'm looking at purchasing a 120 gallon Reef aquarium with sump and refugium within the next month. Great information on ReefCentral and appreciate all the great topics people discuss!!

My first question. Here is my fish stocking list for the 120 gallon tank and the order I believe I should stock it in. Please advise if you would go in a different order.

- 2 juvenile Clownfish (False Percula Tank Raised)
- Watchmen goby with Pistol Shrimp
- Copperband Butterfly
- 6 Green Chromis Fish
- Lineatus Fairy Wrasse
- Bartletts Anthias
- Royal Gamma
- Potters Angelfish
- Mandarin Goby - 1 year after tank matures

Hello aquarium people. I grew up with about 20 reef tanks in our house. My mom and dad had a store in Houston and I finally caved into the hobby now that I've cleared my debt from UT. HAha. Jokes on them...Didn't learn anything! Whatever. I live in north Florida now and I'm going to Reef Palooza next month!!! Anyone else???

Hi gang

Been in the hobby for 3 years on and off.

Hi Guys!
Shawna from Alberta Canada. New to the RC community, slowly becoming a reef nerd. Just finished my first ever cycle (live rock, live sand, inverts) took a couple months, have fish, and just added some soft coral. Work in progress :)

Hello! newbie here. I currently have a 10 gallon nano with a baby blue hippo tang (less than and inch long), baby ocellaris clown, and a juvenile ocellaris. I am in the works of purchasing and going to cycle a 32 gallon bio cube to move them into.

I am working closely with someone who has a 100 gallon tank and has run it successfully for 4 years, so I am not completely in the dark.

Hope to talk to a lot of you soon.

Hello!

I've kept a variety of low-tech planted tanks for about 15 years or so, mostly ranging from 3-55 gallons. I broke down my last freshwater tank about a year ago after my last Apistogramma cacatuoides (cockatoo cichlid) died of old age (9+ years). I'm planning on starting up a 55g tall seahorse tank at some point in the future, but I'm new to smaller saltwater systems so thought I should do my homework first.

I say "small systems" because I work professionally with large fresh and saltwater fish at a biological research facility. I pretty much exclusively maintain systems in the neighborhood of 10K to 22K liters with large to very large inhabitants, so there is a lot for me to learn about the little tanks! While I'd love to have a huge tank at home, I live in a small apartment that is limited in space, and my content insurance limits the total volume of aquarium water I am allowed to have on the premises.

Anyways, no personal tanks here as yet- just planning and looking to learn!

I'm new!

I'm new!

 hello everyone Ryan D here. I've read a ton of great info here and was about time to join in the fun. Been out of the salt game a long time. Back when all I needed was undergravel 2 powerheads and some start-rite :lolspin:

So much has changed over the years. Or have gotten more interesting. RODI? Reactors? ATO's? Wave makers? And that's just the tip of the iceberg! LOL

My heads spinning.
I got a BC29 for $40 and dude hooked me up with 15lbs of (dead) Rock and some egg crate. No stand. Stock return pump works as do the fans in the hood. But pretty loud! The lights not so much so gutted them to implement LED's.
EBay score for $88 Current Marine Pro! Very happy!:D

A CL score of a 20lb bag of live sand and 62lb new box of instant ocean salt $20 cash. I did blow $75 at Petsmart for some needed gear like digital therm, siphon some filter material (ditched bioballs) a crappy Aqueon Circ pump & a magnet glass cleaner

LFS for $40 worth of live rock. Still have my old hydrometer but still need a test kit. So far I'm into it for a very reasonable amount of $

Letting nature take its course and look forward to learning and sharing on here!

Ryan

Hello everyone!!!

Hello everyone!!!

Hi everyone, I could have sworn that I used to be a member of this forum a few years back, but I guess I was wrong. (LOL)

Well I still consider myself new to the hobby, but I have had 6 tanks since 2005, but never had them for long because I was in the military. Recently I picked up the hobby again now that Im out of the military and picked up a 50g Cube and sump. Add two MP10's, a Radion and the new Apex.

Well see you guys on the forum!!!

New to saltwater and excited to get started

New to saltwater and excited to get started

Hello, I grew up having freshwater fish tanks and always dreamed of saltwater. Having time now, retired, and finally financially capable, I am getting started.

Ordered an AquaVim 90 gal 3/4 cylinder tank and anxiously waiting for its arrival.

I tried to read as much as possible but still have so many questions. I hope you all can be patient. :)

Hello Reef Central

Hello Reef Central

This is my second post on reef central because i didn't notice this forum for new people. Anyways, this is my first time entering the hobby of saltwater reef keeping. I have had several years of experience in freshwater tanks and brackish. I've finally decided to make the jump up to saltwater now that I have a better source of income. I just recently bought a 150 gallon aquarium that's 6'Lx2'Dx18"H and a standard 55 Gallon aquarium to make a sump. I can't wait for all the help this forum will provide and questions answered.

Hello All,

I finally purchased a 65 gallon tank and is currently cycling. I have to admit I am a bit anxious about the chemistry balance of it all and if I will be able to step up to the challenge of keeping it balanced. I've been lurking in the shadows for quite some time now and reading as much as I can. I have learned a lot from peoples posts and specially the stickies. I am grateful for this site and the people that make this possible.

Hi guys! Been keeping freshwater tanks for years, finally decided to venture into saltwater. I'm setting up a 110g tall and I'm super excited. I look forward to being a part of the community.

I'm new here to RC! Name is Stephanie from the Hudson Valley in New York. Have been keeping freshwater tanks for many years. I've always wanted to get into saltwater tanks but was super intimidated. I'm ready now! My fiance and I are currently in the research/list making mode. We have tanks in our basement from the 20g range to 75g. I know 75 would be best but I'm currently set on starting with a 40g breeder! Looking forward to picking everyone's brains & learning alot! :D

Hello! I registered some time back, but just posting today. I have several tanks, two of the freshwater variety, one housing betta macrostoma and one housing betta pallifina, one of the hermit crab variety (land hermits) and a single marine setup.

This one is a work in progress. My main thing missing is decent lighting, but it is a 40 gallon Oceanic Stretch hex, with a Hydor HOB skimmer, the largest one, an Eheim heater, An Eheim 2222 canister (for flow) a Maxijet 400(IIR) powerhead, an Aquaclear for a HOB refugium and added flow, and about 40 lbs of live sand and 45 bs of rock. Light is a Current USA Freshwater+ stolen from another setup, for now. Inhabitants are three snails, a margarita, a turbo, and a nacirrius (Spelling on those are most likely waaaay off) six blue legged hermits and a single yellowtailed demoisale. Set the tank up in Feb, and have been going pretty slow since.

I plan to get something better for flow since the canister will move to the 60 for the land hermits freshwater pool, and a better light. I want a pair of clowns, and a barnacle blennie, a bubbletip anenome and some corals. Easy ones for now. Since my cabinet is not large enough for a sump I dont have that luxury. I do plan to house some macro algaes in the display tank as I feel they are just as attractive as corals. I have a couple small samples of a few, which hopefully they will spread well.

Anyhow, hullo!
