New to reef tank

New to reef tank

Hello, my name is Karen and I am new to Reef Central and just starting to set up a reef tank. I had several freshwater tanks many years ago but want to try a reef tank. I have a 90 gal AquaVim 3/4 tank ordered and trying to learn and get everything else I will need to be successful. I very much appreciate the forums and information here. All advice is greatly appreciated and I am not offended at all if anyone wants to set this Newby straight. Thank you for letting me join!

Hi everyone, newish to the hobby and just Purchased a Nuvo 20 gallon and my brother provided me his set up Nuvo 10. However i will be breaking down the Nuvo 10 shortly until i have more space for 2 tanks. Spent months researching everything before purchase, currently have some corals and clown fish inherited from the Nuvo 10. Looking forward to see everyones beautiful tanks!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the hobby and very excited to start my SW tank. I just picked up a 110gal and I'm ignorant to many things about it. So I hope you guys in RC can guide me to healthy set up. Thanks in advance.

Hi team,
I'm Ingrid. I have been fish keeping for 20+ years, however have only just started with Marine/reef. Always wanted to, but couldn't commit to the requirements. Now I'm old and wise I have just set up a 60lt nano which I am in the process of cycling.
Open to any advice!

Cheers!

Hi everyone! I am new to the hobby with a 23 gallon reef nano (has a 10 gallon sump though). I'm about 3 months in and I have a professional company doing most of my stuff but I want to slowly take over and learn the hobby and manage the tank....

1st sw tank - ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

1st sw tank - ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Hello! I've had freshwater tanks forever, my kids have a 13 gal tank full of glofish (which I don't care for) and I started a reef tank about 3 months ago. At this point I have all of the live rock and livestock I'm going to get, may add corals in a month or two. So, I have:
Tiger jawfish, coral angel, green clown goby, yellow watchman goby, royal gramma and 2 clown fish. So, everyone but the clown fish lives in a cave!!! I prepped the tank with lots of rock with nooks and crannies and made a racetrack or sorts for the angel. I see her swooshing by but that's it. I've got all these fish and the tank looks empty. 🤣 They are all healthy and happy, so that's what counts.

Hi
I'm very new to this, in fact still at the tank deliberation stage. So far the Aqua One Marine 180 is winning due to budget. I'm edging toward a Coral / fish community, so any advice on links to compatible species would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Nick

Hi from Nowra NSW Australia

Hi from Nowra NSW Australia

Have a million questions

Want to make a beanimal build

Want to take up the challenge

What do you guys think?

I bought a 32g biocube from a store that was already established. they set up my tank at home handed me my kits said self explanatory (HAHA). Few days later i brought home Shelley she died a month later. My nitrates and nitrites where always high then went down my PH did 5g water changes weekly with no change add purchem no change added a chocolate chip star fish no change so frustrating. Was told to add B supplement then Shelley died( i think by what i read was trying to molt i will admit i kept looking at her in her den with a flashlight(did i kill her by being nosey????). Few days ago i did a 10 gallon water change FINALLY not nitrites but now Alk is high so reduced B in half hope this helps. Want to get another mantis but want my tank right first. any advice would be great!!!!thank you

New to salt water

Hi everyone. I am new to salt water and any advice would be great. I had fresh water before but this is completely new to me. Thanks.

Haven't gotten my feet wet yet but almost!

Haven't gotten my feet wet yet but almost!

Hello,
I am from Rochester, NY and have kept fish since I was a kid. I currently have a 75 gallon discus tank- bare bottom with 8 Asian domestics and a 75 gallon community tank. The natural progression is to step into the salty side.
I was originally planning on getting an all in one plug and play Red Sea Max E Series but ended up finding a really nice looking 30 gallon extra tall tank on an extra tall stand- so yeah it's tall! I thought it would look great with mostly corals and just a few fish and inverts. My discus forum has a reef section and the guys there have been awesome helping me on my feet. I am building my sump (10 gallons is all that will fit in the cabinet), and just bought the Aqua Illumination Hydra Twenty Six light. I have 35 lbs of Reef Saver ready to scape and all the other bits and pieces arriving shortly. The tank came with an Eshopps overflow that I hope I can make work(my discus tank is drilled) and figure out the safety tricks to keep me out of divorce court. I tend to flood the house a lot with all the discus water changes and don't want to add more to my standing flood count. Currently still looking for a good skimmer that will fit in the tiny sump. Maybe a Skimz Monster Mini.
I am still trying to find my way around this forum since it is so different from the small discus one that I call home. Looking forward to spending some time here with you and learning about reef keeping!

Ooops First mistake made.

Ooops First mistake made.

I am coming back after 10 years away.

I talked with my wife and indicated I wanted to put a 75 Gallon tank in my office. It was vetoed. Instead she thinks it should fill the space available. This would be a 125 to 180 Gallon custom build. So, I am in the very first stages of looking at putting this together.

I have noted things have changed over the ten years. Lighting, Monitoring, filtration, and chemicals have had advances.

Lighting had T5 and Metal Halide as the rage. Now I see LED is coming in. Monitor systems like Neptune Apex, Digital Aquatics Reef Keeper, Seneye, and Tunze are available.

Being a Computer Consultant, I am Technically inclined. At this point it looks like planning will take about a year. I will have to get approval from the wife, but she will not settle for a small 75 gallon tank. I have been told.

As some of you may understand, I made my first mistake.

Hello Everyone:

I've had a 90 gallon mixed reef tank running for a little over a year. I've been learning so much from this site during that time period that I decided to sign up so I could be an official member of this awesome community. And, now I can see the pictures! Just want to thank everyone who has ever contributed to this forum. You've been giving me quite an education.

New here, got 94litre small tank that is cycling now. Been 2 weeks with 10kg live rock in. Hoping to start adding livestock this week with goby and shrimp pair first on list. Question, do I need a clean up crew of crabs and snails?

I'm very new to the hobby a 6 months. I started with a 75gal tank & quickly ran out of room. I have a 125gal now with a built in overflow, loop system, 75gal sump. Here are a few Pic's from my 75 gallon tank and my 125. 20170324_142145.jpg

Hi everyone! Although i have kept Freshwater tanks, I have just set up my first Salt tank. This is something I have been dreaming of doing and can't wait for it to cycle so I can add a couple fish and some corals (fluval evo 13.5gallon). Can't wait to learn more! Looking for any reefers in the Sonoma County to learn from :wavehand:
