If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello RC,

SoultWater here guess I'm new here even though I registered in 2007 but only recently started posting. Been doing Saltwater for about 20 years but took an 8 year break to travel around the world for our great Uncle Sam. I consider myself a DIY guy I built my last several tanks from ground up including the wooden stands and DIY lighting and plumbing. I'm just about finished with my contract with Uncle Sam so it's time to settle down and start reefing again. I'm not much of a writer and well pretty un educated in general but I do my best.

All I can say if you read a post from me and it makes no sense at all you can rest assured it made perfect sense when I wrote it or at least I thought it did.

below is one of the last tanks i built... not good photos but this was before digital cameras so this is all i have to remember her by

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Stacy and i'm just starting out with my very first salt water tank. Always wanted one, never had the time or energy into finding out more about it. Became friends with Mr. James and suddenly I have a 75 gallon tank in my dining room :) I'm about to order my live rock and can't wait to get through the cycling so that I can start collecting critters for my tank! Look forward to going through this site to see what other people have so that I can get more ideas!

Welcome SoultWater,
It seems you and I used the same travel agency.
I'm still trying to catch up with all the new stuff that is being used.

Hi all.

My name is Larry. I live in Casper Wy. and I'm a complete newb. I have been reading here a lot though and have quite a bit more understanding than I did a month ago.

My general plan is to get a 120-150 tank, I wanna start out with the tank I'll use for a long time, space and finances are somewhat limited at the moment so thats the biggest tank I can see me having for the foreseeable future. Ive already decided that my set up will be DIY as much as humanly possible. I enjoy designing and builing things so that will be almost as much fun as actually having it. And I get to tinker when it is up and running.

Expect to see a lot of questions from me, some may even be good!!

hi-larry, welcome to the forum buddy, basically theres so much info here you may get a little confused, start with reading the stickies at the top of the forum under this thread, waterkeepers articles are great for complete beginners such as yourself, and when your ready to ask questions just fire away, someone here will answer them.

New to Reef Central from Central IL

Hi Reef Central folks,

My name is Chris and I'm new to the "modern day" techniques for saltwater. I got out of saltwater in the 90's with a stable 55 gallon that had undergravel and powerfilters, with one or two hang-on-tank powerfilters.

I was out of it for over a decade, and then ran a little self-contained 10 gallon eclipse unit with a couple clowns, damsels and some janitors. I'm getting my 75 gallon started up now and am doing my own sump. I think I'm leaning towards a 30 gallon long glass with baffles that I'll put in myself.

I ordered some supplies online and am awaiting arrival of those items. I'm looking at starting up very gradually and trying to do it right the first time.

I have a retriever forum that I've operated since 1998, with the same setup as Reef Central. While it's an incredibly popular retriever board, it is nowhere near as big as this place....WOW!!!!

This is a great resource and I appreciate all of you who help and share.

Chris

I'm new!

Hi my name is Joshua and I am new to this forum and to the hobby. I just started two days ago and right after this I will be looking for an appropriate forum to post some pics of my new tank along with some Q&A's. Feel free to critique my tank set up or give opinions. Thanks!

New to hobby

Hello everyone. I'm Sid from Atlanta, GA. I've gotten started in this hobby for my daughter who is just crazy about fish. I've purchased a used tank, equpment and live rock (actually not so live) and have been up and running about a month. Added some additional rock from the LFS and have got the cycle started. I've got lots of questions which I'll post soon. I've already learned a lot from Reef Central.:fish1:

You will probably find that the basics of reefkeeping are still sound from back when you had first started. Alot of todays stuff is more marketing hype then what is actually needed. Water changes, lots of live rock and a protein skimmer would be enough in a lot of cases
