If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi RC, I set up my 30 gallon 2 months ago, after i got the tank for my 13th birthday, and i'm really excited about this hobby, always learning new things.
:bounce1: hope i can soon create a thriving coral reef

Not exactly new but it has been 5+ years since I had a tank. I used to have a 55g tank but when my ex and I moved into our house I broke the tank down and disposed of it. Now that I am single again I am starting out with a 36g bow front with about 45lb of LR. Trying to do this one slowly and correctly. The plan is to upgrade to a 75g (or other 4' tank with sump as soon as I can find one for cheap).

there are good deals all the time for tanks you just have to be patient and wait for the right one to come along.

welcome back to the hobby.

30 gallon is going to be a fun tank to start off with, it won't be long before you have a thriving reef tank and you'll be upgrading to a larger tank just to make room for the growing corals.

New guy to this world of Saltwater!

Hello all!

I am looking forward to gaining masses of information to create a great and healthy mini ecosystem with incredible displays.

Hello everyone,
My name is Emiel, i'm from a small town nearby Amsterdam, in Holland. In march 2010 I started this hobby with a 500 liter tank. Since then I read a lot at dutch forums and also at reefcentral. What is the best location to show some pics and info about my tank, on this forum?
Greetings, Emiel

I lived a couple hours from Amsterdam in Bitburg Germany. I went to keukenhof when the tulips were in bloom. And of course Amsterdam was a great place to visit.

Any way, Reef Discussion is a great place to start a thread about your tank.

Returning to the Hobby

Returning to the Hobby

I'm returning to the hobby after a 15+ year hiatus. Technology has changed significantly and I'm excited to learn all about it. I was referred to this forum by a friend of mine, who is a reefer as well.

I haven't started a new project yet, but I'm doing my research and plan on building a small/nano reef tank. This is something I always wanted to try, but 15 years ago, it was said to be too difficult. Now it seems that after years of trial and error and technological advancements, it has become more realistic.

At any rate, I'll start a thread once I get started on my project, so I can document and share my progress.

I was out of the hobby for 10 years and when I came back, I was amazed at the amount of new equipment and new information that has been discovered it made it easy for any Tom, Dick or Harry to come into the hobby and be successful. Can't wait to see you're tank build, be sure to PM me your link when you get it going.

returning to marine after 5 years away

returning to marine after 5 years away

after being out of the hobby for the past 5 years, i'm coming back with a 125 gal marine (fish-only) tank. what i would like to know is what areas has the technology changed the most. i see the new LED lighting is one, but for a fish-only tank, that is not of much interest to me?

has protien skimming gotten significantly better? anything else?

Hi my name is Robert and I am a reefaholic. My local forum is pretty dead so I decided to try the deep water.

I am currently working on my newest tank, a 210g. I figure it will tank a while to get up and running; but that is ok with me (haha, not really).

Hello my name is mark. I have had alot of FWAs but this is my first jump into SW. I have good friend that had been showing me alot. Just set up a 50gl tall tank. Waiting on it to cycle. Hope to put this forum to some use.

Welcome! Good job on letting the tank cycle before adding livestock!

hi eveybody my name is ryan ive been here a while but never posted. just want to say hi and see if u guys can tell me where or what i need to do to start a thread of my own. thanks

Hi, my name is Doug and I am brand new to the world of salt water aquariums. I've done some research, but this seems to be a very challenging hobby. Before finding this website, I checked around at the local pet stores and such and found out I can pretty much get whatever I need for around $800-$1,000. I'm willing to spend that much, but I would like to DIY everything possible. Not too worried about the money, I just get more out of something when I do it myself (instead of buying a ready-made kit). Anyways, I plan on starting with fish, but want to have the ability to add some rock later on. I am also interested in using rock for filtration. I've got plenty of questions, but will post them in the appropriate thread.

Also, a thank you to everyone active in this website-it has really helped out!

Welcome! Best advice...read read read. Then when you think your ready....read a lot more. This hobby isn't hard, it just requires commitment. Good luck and may your first experience be as fulfilling as mine has been (started 1/01/10).
