If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi, I'm MGOBLUE.

I have been lurking on this and a couple of other reef sites over the last few weeks. I had a SW tank years ago, but was using very outdated information. I quit when I made a move to a new house 10 years ago. I am in the process of starting a 75g and looking to do it better this time using the most updated information I can get.

So far, RC and MR (Michigan Reefers) are the two sites I am spending the most time on. It's been fun and informative to read while I slowly make progress on my tank build (building a stand now).

Thanks for all the info!!

Be sure to start a new thread documenting your tank and stand build.

I stumbled across this forum searching for reef info. You guys def seem to have the answers! I'm in the process of building my first reef tank. I've had SW tanks before but they were all aggressive fish. I hope you guys don't mind questions & ideas to critque, cause I've got a few.

Whats up my name is Jordan I have two fish only tanks. One is a 10 gallon with a mix you wont believe and a 300 gallon tank. Have any questions about them just ask.

Hey all! Kulture here.

New to RC and a newbie to salt water.
I kept fresh as a kid, have had animals of all sorts, and currently have a 29 mini reef.
I'm expanding my 29 to a 90 reef tank- as I'm writing this my Irian Jaya is curing and my house is a wreck. (bad sw pun... Lol)

I'm learning and could always use help... If I post something that is absolutely ridiculous make sure to call me on it! Lol

Hi

Hi

hello my name is jimmy i am a newbee to the sw world. i have a 29g setup with a few things in there. most of witch came on my live rock. the tank is bout 2mounths old is all. im gunna say thx to this site 4 all the help so far!!:celeb3::celeb3:

Not so much a newbie, I've been reefing for about a year. I have a 24G aquapod nano that's getting pretty full. I've decided to put together a 90 gallon. I found a very nice Hagen tank with a beautiful cherry wood stand. I've also purchased a complete 75G set-up for the sump, MH lights (250w) and pumps and such.

My build will be slow as I want everything to be perfect and I want the 90 gallon to run for 6-8 weeks before I start stocking it.

Anyway I plan on doing a build thread, just not sure where to do it yet.

Also is there a Canadian section on this forum?

Hi, my name is Joey and I am a newbie to the salt water world. I've had a 45 gallon Africian Cichlid tank for the past five years, but I've always been fascinated by the beauty of reef aquariums. I found this website and have been Reading several build threads cover to cover and I'm hooked. I'm starting to research my options to see what it will take to get started. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Please start a thread documenting your 2 tanks ( that are on both sides of the spectrum)

I hope no one calls you out, instead they offer alternative advice (constructively, of course)

since you have the experience, I would suggest starting a build thread in the reef discussion forum,

As for the Canadian section: Reef Central only has 4 international clubs Canada doesn't have one, however there are lots of reefers from there. One that comes to mind right off the bat is capn_hylinur, in Hamilton. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this hobby.

As mentioned, make sure your read through this thread, it's packed full of info.

And if you want my advice start off with a 75 gallon tank it'll give you the best of all worlds, it's not too small that the slightest change water quality/chemistry is going to cause problems. and it's not too big that it's going to cost a fortune to run.

Hello everyone, I'm Jeff Wester (Jaxom), retired Air Force. I have a little experience in keeping reef tanks, I started out with a 55 gal FOWLR tank when I was stationed at Kadena AB in Okinawa, had it for about a year and a half then I had to return to the states. After I retired from the AF I moved back to California and started 2 Nano reef tanks which I enjoyed until I was transferred to Texas in Jan of 2006. I had been going through reef with-drawls until I found RC in 2007, I was content looking at all the beautiful tanks and reading and planning for a tank for myself in the future, it was unfortunate that during that time I wasn't able to meet any of you since I couldn't post on any threads, (destined to a life of forced exile or lurking), after several emails to moderators I finally was allowed to start posting about a month and a half ago.

I ordered a 100 gal RR OceanView tank (60"X18.5"X19") in Feb, it finally arrived in July, hope to start building the stand and hood soon, I will start a build thread when I start the stand. I've started collecting things I will be using with the tank, so far I've picked up:

1 Mag Drive 1200
2 Koralia 3s
2 Koralia 4s
48" 2x54W SLR T5 Very High-Output Retrofit Kit
60" 4x80W SLR T5 Very High-Output Retrofit Kit
2 Icecap 660 Ballast
Super Reef Octopus 2000 Internal Protein Skimmer
Ordered a 40 gal sump, should pick it up in Nov

As you can tell I'm not in a big hurry, hoping to get it right the first time (yeah right). Hope to have the tank plumbed and water in it around the first of the year, once that is accomplish I will be ordering the 65 lbs package from Tampa Bay Saltwater. Honestly I can't wait but forcing myself to.

As always any thoughts, ideas and comments are always solicited, please feel free. My hope is to create my piece of the reef for others to enjoy right along with me and my family.

I've always heard that reefing is pretty big for those of us stationed in japan. When you get your build thread started be sure to PM me your link.

Thanks,

Building a stand isn't as hard as people make it out to be.

I got orders to california last february but just got the tank back up and running about 4 months ago, started all over with new fish and frags. The good news is that the tank and stand made it in 1 piece.

That's good news, I didn't even try to ship my tank back from Okinawa, was afraid it wouldn't have made it. I sold it to one of the guys I flew with, he had just arrived on station.

Hey all. Name is Jameson Zuk, been a lurker here for a while decided I should introduce myself. Just sold my 80 gallon FOWLR and moved back to So Cal from Florida (building a tank of that size was not the brightest move while in college). Looking to start a a 10 or 20 gallon nano here shortly. New to that whole thing so I'll probably be posting a lot of questions once I get that under way. Peace out
