If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Just throwing a Hi out there as the thread says to introduce yourself here first so that is what I'm doing. I've got more experience with reef tanks than I do internet forums, which might not be saying much.

I'm in the process of setting up a new 180 gallon tank. I started off with FW tanks when I was a kid and graduated to SW about 10 years ago after my wife got me into it.

We have numerous small tanks around the house, a 150 gallon FW tank and a 75 gallon reef tank that isn't as successful as I'd like so that is the reason for the new tank. I joined the forum on the advice from my LFS that this is the best one on the net so I've been poking around and reading threads for a week or so.

Hello all.... I'm a total noob to reef tanks but will persevere. I have 120g homemade tank that has been maturing for about 8 weeks now. I currently have a couple of zoos, a mushroom coral and a mystery coral I think might be a galaxia. I also have 4 damsels, a Percula clown and a bubbletip anemone, 24 scarlett hermits, 20 astrea snails and 6 mexican turbos. Anyone out there in the Tampa Bay area that might have some insight or a brain I might pick is welcome to contact me. Thanks!

Check out RC's local forums there are a couple that are from florida. I bet you will find one close to you.
 
hello my name is kevin. Im new to reefcentral but i have had a mixed reef for over 5 years. just looking to improve what i have and gather as much input as possible.
 
Hello.

I'm a FW guy. I was just in middle of setting up a 90G FW African cichlid tank in my bedroom when someone suggested I look into Marine first. After a bit of research and reading all the newbie articles on this forum I'm totally hooked on the idea of keeping SW Marine.

I'm still going to go ahead with my plans for my 90G but I think I will start slow with a 10g and if all goes well I'll upgrade to bigger and better!

Maybe in a year I'll completely swap my 90G to marine.

Be careful if you start a 10 gallon saltwater tank you'll wish that you saved that 90 for a larger saltwater tank. It's addicting and you'll wonder why your wasting your time with freshwater...... Don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

Hey guys and gals I am new to the forum and sorta new to the hobby I had a 65 gallon bow front then seperated and now getting back in to the hobby with a 45 gallon rectangle. I am running it from a canister filter with a fowlr right now and thinking about getting it to corals since my girlfriend loves the colors. Tank has cycled and I currently have a occelaris clown and a yellow tail damsel and a domino damsel and a four stripe damsel two turbos and a mixture of 5 other snails and 5 blue legged hermits and a serpentine starfish.
 
hello fellow saltwater addicts. my name is josh and live in virginia. been in the hobby for about a year now now. i have a 28g pc nanocube. also, just invested in a predriiled 90g. gonna have a diy 30g sump/refugium underneath. here to enjoy the amazing opinions that this hobby has to offer.
 
Hey lilpapa we are in it about the same looking to go in to a 90 eventually. I am from southern md so it is nice to see somewhat locals on here.
 
y0ung0ne yeah i got my 90g about 2 weeks ago for $50. Currently doing a leak test on it and my 30g for the sump. I had a 75g for about 9 months but had to take it down. Going to run a berlin triple pass skimmer. Are you planning on doing reef or fowlr?

I am new to this group and also a 6 week old rookie to saltwater. Previously I was involved with African Chiclids but now ready or salt.

I have a 125 using LEDs. I have a reef and some soft corals.

I built my own stand but I am looking for ideas from anyone if you have plans on building a canopy.

I'm new to the saltwater, thanks to my nephew who let me buy is breeding pr of watchman gobies. I been in the fish breeding hobby for years and I'm almost at 200 species breed in freshwater. I have 45 tanks in the basement all FW. I only have one 20 long SW. I found myself not liking the salt to much because all my FW tanks have live plants. So I found some lfs selling a few plants and one guy said to put a couple of zoantihds in there to help make it look better. but I bought one zoa and found one more and next one more, and now I'm looking to start collecting them.
So thats my problem.
I hope to learn more on this site.

Sounds like you're taking the big leap to corals, it's like falling in love with the hobby all over again, be sure to read up and fully understand what your corals will require.

I love this site just for the sole purpose that many have done it before you and made mistakes. You can learn from others mistakes without losing out on tons of money.

be sure to start a new thread documenting you tank build.
 
Sisterlimonpots thanks for the info I really appreciate it we are looking int o corals going to be a slow process I know and will definetly do the research on them because I would rather succeed then fail.
