If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

My name is Sam and I am not really new to the hobby. Had a 36 gal FOWLR tank for about 2 years and just moved. So looking to set up something new now that I have moved to the Sacramento area.

As it turns out the tank broke during the move. Not too bad as they will reimburse me and I have been wanting to set up a nano tank. I will either be doing a 14 Gal biocube or 12 gal nano cube.

So before I get started any suggestions would be nice!

Thanks
Sam

Newbie ,just bought a 30 gallon cube and set it up with live sand and about 25lb of live rock. via aqua skimmer II with protein skimmer hanging on the back.no room for anything bigger under the cabinet.waiting to cycle and join the fun.

Hello everyone. I am getting ready to setup a new system. I am planning on a big sump that allows me to add and subtract a number of nano systems (20-30g tanks). My goal is to have a 4 tanks hooked up to system. A sps, lps, anemone (RBTA n GBTA) and one for fish. I will have 2 others setup, each of them contained in its own system. That way I have 2 quarantine tanks. I am getting ready to start the build this weekend. I will be taking lots of pictures and asking lots of questions. Thanks for having me here at RC and I will be seeing you all around the forums.

hello all - my name is Krista. new to SW, and putting my toe in the water with a 14g biocube. amazing that even the ROCK is interesting in this hobby! have been successfully keeping malawi cichlids ( 75g, 26bowfront, and 29L for fry).

have live sand, live rock with a couple orange wormy hitchhikers. going to LFS for a water test & another piece of live rock. after cycling, what's best to put in first? soft corals, zoas, a fish or 2? thinking i should not do 'all at once'; is this correct?

Afternoon,

I've had my first marine aquarium for about 3 months now. (it was a birthday gift to my girlfriend, she gets to look and I get to work). Really enjoying myself with it though. I have done freshwater before, but the difference between the two is like the difference between taking care of a cat and a baby.

I have a 75 gallon display with 85 lbs of rock. Using a 40 gallon breeder as a sump, powered by a mag 9 and a lifereef siphon overflow. Octopus Extreme XS160 skimmer, 6xT5HO fixture, Fluval 305 used to run carbon and plumbed into the sump. About a 15 gallon refugium with a 5" deep sand bed and a ball of chaeto. 2 Hydor Koralia Evo 750's on a wavemaker.

So far I'm stocked with blue tang, a sailfin tang (both are about 3" and will be donated to the local aquarium when they outgrow the tank, the girlfriend just had to have them), 2 banggai cardinals, 2 lyretail anthias, a gold stripe maroon clown and his green bubble tip, a lawnmower blenny, a bluegreen chromis, a coral banded shrimp, a fighting conch, assorted hermits & snails. Corals include a candy cane, a large green hammer, a florida ricordea, a finger leather, some green hairy mushrooms, a sun polyp, and a yellow gorgonian (rescued from a bad LFS, I may donate it to a better store or the aquarium if it declines in my care, so far it's doing well though). Also have a Deresa clam.

I keep my specific gravity at 1.025, temperature at 78, calcium at 420 and alk at 9. Phosphates and nitrates are about 0.1. I perform a 15 gallon water change once a week, which limits the amount I have to supplement to the bare minimum.

Sorry that was a little long winded. If anyone has any suggestions or advice feel free to reply.

New but not really new.

New but not really new.

Chose the name Mr. Useless because I retain so much useless facts.(love jeopardy) My wife is currently on the board of our local fish club(C.O.R.A.) and just lives for it. I am wanting to start up a 40 gal breeder with some coral so I can get it healthy so maybe try some pygmy angels. I know that sounds stupid but I heard it can be done.

hi guys! good morning! Ceebuano here, im from the philippines..new to ReefCentral, the hobby has been kind to me for 6 years now..been reading alot of stuff here in Reefcentral and i've been learning more things and applying (or trying to apply) what i have read.

currently i have a 6 year old FOWLR 80gallon tank, (skimmerless, sumpless for the last 4years)..the filtration method that i have been using is purely based on Bio-Filtration and 2HOB filters, since i started the hobby when i was in college budget was a big concern so im still keeping whatever i had when i was starting..

the tank is currently being lit by 2 39WATTS t5HO lights and 1 deep sea Actinic lights (30watts), for cooling i have 4 220v DC Fans (gives me at least 27C on any given day),..since summer just passed here in my side of the world and temperatures here we're kinda high (37C-38C noon) i employed the help of an Air pump to help my tank in getting enough oxygen (iono if this sounds right):)

for live stock i have

2 False Perculas
2 Orange SKunk Clowns
1 Sailfin Tang
1 Volitan Lionfish
4 3-stripe Damsels
1 Pajama Cardinal
1 Yellow Damsel
1 Tomato Clownfish
5 Britle Stars

and about a dozen snails growing in my tank.

so far i have 3 inverts on board as well ( carpet anemone, sebae anemone, and a long tentacle anemone)

currently im starting a Nano tank (still cycling..onto my 6th week) and im here to learn and learn and learn the hobby and its continuos changes .

whooo..sorry if it was kinda long..

Have a good day! :)

Hi from sunny AZ

Hi from sunny AZ

Hey there, all. New to Reef Central, but I've had various saltwater tanks going for about 5 years now with varying success. I'm getting ready to set up a new 90g we just picked up today (upgrading from a 55g), and can use some advice on setting the new one up. This will be my first drilled tank, so I'm going to be having fun learning how to plumb PVC, probably what I'm most concerned about. But, all new rock and new sand in this one, and making sure there are no critters this time as I have a 4 ft bristle worm currently hiding that try as I might I've never been able to get rid of. I'll post more in the proper threads, I'm planning on making this the tank I've always wanted so I want to be sure I get it right.

Hi everyone, just want to introduce myself to all R.C. members! I've been doing the freshwater thing for 20 years now, but finally got enough courage to try a Saltwater Reef Aquarium. I'm living in Saskatoon, Sask. (Canada) and I'm employed with the City as a Transit Operator or in simple terms a bus driver. Anyways we have a small saltwater LFS in the area and I decided to pop in and have a look at the store and everthing they have to offer. The store is called Bayside Corals and is really coming along, the owner and his partner are knowleagable and friendly and carry a good selection of products and if they don't have it in stock they are eager to order things for you. Anyways my curiosity got the best of me and I visited just to have a look, I was amazed at there display tank and how beautiful everything looks colorful and alive, that was it, I went home and told my wife I wanted to setup a saltwater tank, she came with me the next day to have a look at the display tank and all the corals and fish they have and was very impressed herself. I just happen to have an All-Glass 155 Bowfront tank with dual corner overflows, that I was going to setup as a freshwater planted tank, but have changed my mind and am now gearing towards using this for a saltwater reef display. Any help would be appreciated especially for stacking the live rock, what would be the best way to go about this, can I just free stack it or do I have to build a pvc frame or drill holes in the rock and cable tie it. Please help me with this, if you have a blog or a step by step picture forum or video on How to aquascape with live rock, please send the info my way! Hoping to hear from some of you, and glad to be a member of the best reef club in the world! Thanks Again, Brian

New to marine reefs, been tinkering with freshwater tanks for 20 years. Nothing but 40 pounds of live rock in a 55 gl tank so far, will be adding something small soon. I expect to spend some time on this site for a while. Thanks in advance for all the help and information you all will be sharing with me.

Hello RC

I'm still very new to this hobby. I've been into marine life since I was a little kid. I'm just getting started trying to get my 75g reef going... after much work just getting tank and equipment ready.
