hey whats up everyone kinda new to the saltwater game I have a 55 gallon reef thats been up for about 6 months now just bought a new pride and joy thought now that i seem to be addicted to reefs instead a reefer I got me a new 180 gallon with a 55 gallon sump its a oceanic brand glass one with a overflow in each corner just added the reef crystals today....here we go!!

Back in after 10 yrs I am starting a 90 reef tank and so much has changed. I have bought everything Tank stand, new sock filter sump, uv sterilizer, phosphate reactor, skimmer, lighting ect...
My first dilemma is coral vs sand my old tank I used coral now it seems live sand is the perfected method. Which one? Deep or shallow?

goin to start a saltwater tank..i have had many tanks befor but only one was a salt tank "fluval spec 2gal"
heres what i just picked up can you tell me if this is a good start?
my problem:trying to start a reef tank "few fish and few corals"
Size of tank: fluval studio 600 33gal
Age of tank just unboxed
Sump? nope
Skimmer: nope
Water source {ro, ro/di, tap} maybe filtered tap or find some ro/di water
Lights duel t5 HO with glo power light and glo life soon to be antinc

Hey Everyone New here as well. Just bought a 60gallon with middle overflow going to get a sump today as well as water and some more live rock( my friend gave me some of his dried out rock) is that rock gonna be ok to put in from the start? Also I was told at the beginning I don't need lights necessarily since the tank will just be cycling. Should I start with a protein skimmer right away in my sump? Also anyone reading this happen to be in Arizona and have some extra equipment. I still need lights I wanna go with LED cause they give off little to no heat so let me know what your thoughts are about me setting up my tank

Hi All,
After 3 years of marine fish-onlly and a couple of year of reef tanks, I still feel I'm definitely a newbie and have a lot to learn from you guys. My 80g reef tank is doing pretty good, but certainly needs a lot of care on a daily basis. Last month I went on a biz trip for a week and relied on someone else to take care of my tank. Lo and behold, a lot of bleaching and loss of my favorit stonies. Being a genuine geek, I am working to add a lot of automation and remote monitoring to my tank while trying to keep the cost down as much as possible. Looking for good deals I realized Reef Central is one of the best means to network. So here I am and looking forward to tap into and add a few bits the wealth of info and experience that you guys so willingly share with one another. I am very impressed and excited to be a part of this.

I am no newbie but the only advice that I can give would be to keep it simple as possible. If you start going full led and all of the automation possible you will not really obtain the knowledge to maintain a healthy tank if something fails. This would lead to a big amount of money for you in the future! I believe in simple is better! not the best way just the easiest and simplest!

I was wondering if its possible that an arrow crab and a purple tipe anenome could host. Ever since I put both of them in the arrow crab will not leave the anenome alone and there is definately enough food for him. No matter how many times i shoo him away he always comes back and hovers near or over the anenome. He will even push the fish away from it.

What would you recommend for when you are away. I am seting up some remote monitoring and control. Cost will not be higher than a couple of controllable pumps.

Hello everyone. New to the forum and the hobby (4 months in). I have a 110G Saltwater tank that is slowly but surely coming together. I just ordered an RO/DI filter from bulkreefsupply.com in order to combat my brown algae problem. Hoping to find more useful information here in the forums!

Hey guys, pretty new to the salty side of the hobby but am doing pretty well. It seems every time I put something new in my tank it thrives. I currently have a 20 gallon nano and a 46 gallon bowfront. Will probably be either doing a 75 or larger or upgrading the 20 to a 40 breeder in the near future. Right now I have a pair of clowns, cuc, a couple LPS and some Zoas.

Hello all!
Complete and total newbie to this, never kept a freshwater tank for very long (was always moving around when I was younger) and I don't consider keeping a Betta as a freshwater fish. I think of them as their own little screwy fish.
But... I'm incredible meticulous with this thing. Some have asked me why I do as much as I do for a Betta as they usually toss 'em in a bowl and call it done.
Super excited to potentially having a 30 gallon tank for free! Coworker picked it up to replace his cracked 30L, but it's not the right size. Also funds are somewhat tight (as in I can't go buy a $150 skimmer without planning ahead)
To put peoples minds at ease, I'm not planning on starting this 30 until I have done plenty of homework and research (even the GF is calling me ridiculous to a point) but I figure if I'm gonna do it, do it right and do it once.
Can't wait to get into saltwater!
