Hey all, my name is Sandy. I've had my 75 gal bowfront for about a month now. I have almost all of my equipment, just need a skimmer and some better lights. After doing some more research I think I jumped the gun on stocking my tank,(even though my fish store guy has been guiding me step by step), without having a quarantine tank, I think my new Hippotang may have Ich!! :-/

Hello to all,
Thought I would throw an introduction out there until I can do some more reading. I just recently ran across a deal to good to be true on a 220gal (72x24x30) aquarium which after considerable struggle is now sitting safely in my basement on its stand on good solid concrete. It has been a number of years since I have been able to have a tank at home but now I want to do a reef tank with anemones and clowns. Previously I had a heavily stocked 125 with African Cichlids which were thriving before I had to sell them off prior to a 2,000 mile move across the country.
I do understand this will be expensive.
I do understand that it will take considerable time, and that it is not a bad thing.
I do also understand I have a lot to learn (and that it is half the fun).
I know I will be able to temper some of the costs as I am very capable at fabrication with wood, glass, plastics, and things of the electrical nature. I will probably be starting a thread in the new future with more specific tank plans and to throw some ideas around.

Well yes im a 14 year old kid who underestimates everyone in this hobby. i know more then the average person or even more. im know to be at Age of Aquariums there any they all know my. i have been in the hobby for almost a 1 year and i know more than alot. i study more about this hobby than in high school. i have a 12 gallon nano full reef with a black misbar clown and a six line wrasse. so dont under estimate me.

Hello everyone,
After 10 years I have decided to jump back into the saltwater world. My last tank was a FOWLR. I loved it but then had to move and sold the tank with the house and never set up another tank until now. I decided to buy a total setup from someone that is down sizing their collection. The setup is a 200gallon 72x24x26. I has an Eshopps ADV 200 sump/refugium, an ETSS protien skimmer, Kent Maxima RO/DI system, powerheads, stand, and canopy. It also has over 200lbs of LR, some leathers, SPS, mushrooms, zoanthids, and one hammer coral. I have been reading the threads and have decided to do a DIY LED kit for the lights. Still need a lot of help with the specs and have made a few posts hopefully will get feed back soon. This is my first forum and have already found it to be extremely helpful. Thanks

Hello everyone! I finally broke down and have tried out SW for the first time after years of FW. I currently have 3 FW tanks: 55g w/ Rainbows and 47g Column South American biotope and a 29g guppy tank I am using to teach my daughter with. All my tanks are naturally planted and I am extremely into developing out ecosystems as closely as is possible, maybe even pushing the limits a bit to try new things.
I started my SW trial with a 10g nano lagoon which is currently up and running with a false perc clown, royal gramma and a coral banded shrimp. Also have a few astreas snails and 3 blue leg hermits. Tank has been up for about 60 days now and I am acclimating nicely to keeping SW with regards to chemistry and the like...Ammonia and Nitrates are 0ppm so I am happy. What i learn on this tank will carry over to the larger tank.
I have already decided to go fully into a proper SW tank so I just picked up a 150g 48x24x30 which I will be building out as a soft coral/SPS reef and have spent the last month reading and reading to develop a plan for this tank so I will be getting a build log going for input from everyone in the coming weeks.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I am new to the SW hobby. I have had a few freshwater tanks in the past and have always wanted a saltwater setup. However, I was never able to bite the bullet on the cost. Well, about 6 months ago, I finally pulled the trigger. I have a 55 gallon reef style tank. I have 5 fish (3 damsels, 1 yellow-striped maroon clown, and a yellow tang), several softies, a few sps, and snails and crabs. This tank is a starter tank. I am hoping to use it as a way to learn as much as I can about SW best practices. I hope to upgrade to a larger tank down the road. (After I get some of the costly mistakes out of the way. I hear for newbies they are sometimes hard to avoid.) I am looking forward to become better informed on saltwater.

Yeah, I hear that the damsels are a bit agressive. So far they get along great in my tank. However, if they get a bit aggressive or the tank further matures and I want to add to the tank, the damsels will be moved. As for the tang, I know the tank is a bit small. I got him from someone getting out of saltwater and needed a person to take him. The tang is nice and fat, he eats well and seems to kind of paired with my yellow stripe maroon. (not sure if that is really possible) both the clown and the tang swim together and spend a lot of time together. They even have a spot where they gave pushed some sand out of the way and just chill the two of them. No other fish are allowed. I think if I would see any stress to the tang, I would definitely get him to a bigger tank.
As for corals, I have several. All are nice and healthy, growing well. I have, Kenya tree, colt cauliflower, toadstool leather, mushrooms, waving hand, yellow polyps, red polyps, teal polyps, evergreen starburst polyp, purple stag horn acropora, candy red montipora cap, and purple cap. Most are the large frag size since the tank is pretty new, but, they are all growing!

I love the waters and swimming pool is pretty boring to me. I got introduce to scuba diving and just love every minute under water. Unconsciously I just shed some pounds off with daily swimming in the deep. Try it too.

Hello RC! I go by Kitty and I am a brand newb to the saltwater world. I have just gotten a 12 gallon Fluval Edge and I will be turning this bad boy in to a nano reef. I came to the forum to look for help and education while I begin my journey into the not so deep. If anyone would like to give me some pointers I'd much appreciate it!

hello my name is les me and my wife just put up a new saltwater tank so far it has been fun ya wright lol we have a 180 gal tank we have 240# of sand 270# rocks and a ref sump made out of a 55 gal tank 10#of live rock in it and sand the tank is been up for two weeks looks real nice so far
