If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi everyone! I am new to the hobby as well.

I currently have a 20 gallon FW tank that is cycling, although my nitrites are very high :/, I am starting to see some nitrates as well. Unfortunately this is where my tank fell apart last time (extremely high nitrites, ick, and fin rot). I was told by three places to start over. There is no apparent ick/fin rot this time, but I am a little worried about these nitrites again. I don't believe I am over feeding and have 5 black neon tetras for my starters (I had 5 neon tetras -- but those ALL died within days of each other. The black ones are doing fabulously). So....any help/thoughts would be VERY welcome!

I also have a Fluval Edge, 6 gallon, that I got at an estate sale (still in box) for $50. I felt like I couldn't pass that up. The tank is now decorated and my heater just arrived. So I am also going to be putting a couple hardy fish in there...any suggestions?

I am very excited about this hobby and would love to eventually get in to SW, but baby steps for this gal!

Well not sure where this is going to end up But

Hi Everyone, my name is Dimitrios, I live in Staten Island, NY. I've been fishkeeping on my own for the past 5 years with FW aquariums ranging from 5gal. - 55gal. Recently I purchased a 75gal aquarium to give my 7" Bala's some room to swim plus a few Gourami, plecto's etc. So in turn I decided to use there emptied out 55gal. to start this wonder world of SW. Currently awaiting my RO/DI system to arrive. What I have so far :

55gal. long tank
4 bulb lighting fixture w 2-55 watt DL and 2-Actinic bulbs (unsure of there wattage)
DIY 20gal. glass long tank wet/dry w 5 gal. bioballs (may remove for LR)
Eshopps PF-300 Overflo Box with DIY clear acrylic interior box 8x8x2.5
Eheim return pump matched for overflo
2 - 300 Watt Visi-Therm Submersible heaters
34lbs cured LR from LFS LR tank (possibly more soon)
40lbs white sand aggregate
20lbs nature's ocean live bio sand

Started Fishless Cycle June 23, 2012 (Large Shrimp)

Water parameters :

Temperature : 78 degree's
Salinity : 1.023
.50 ammonia
0 nitrite
3.0 nitrate
8.2 pH (assuming nitrate is from cured LR or Bio sand)

Hi, although not new to the hobby or this site, I've been away for some time. I had to break down my salt water tank due to some health issues at the time but currently looking to get back into the hobby. I have a lot to relearn, but I'm looking forward to doing the process all over again.

Hi Im new to sw, just starting out. Searching this forum I have found a wealth of knowledge hopefully I can put it to good use. Located around Mpls, MN so if anyone has any good LFS they know about to check into in the area, PM me. Thanks!

Hi all, Im new to the reef scene but have over 20 freshwater tanks running, from 10 gallon all the way up to a 9 foot 360 gal. Just a few months in and I am finding myself frantically selling off my freshwater fish and equipment so I can put that money into my saltwater tank!

Hi everyone I am new to the reef hobby, I have several years with fish, but just got started with reef. Please help me learn more about my corals by first of all naming them. I bought a complete setup from someone that couldn't keep it anymore. I am taking it slow, but really need to know what I have so I can read up on their care needs. I uploaded all the pictures, so I am going to try and attach them here.

Biocube newbie needs help.

Biocube newbie needs help.

I have the 29 gallon Biocube, Biocube Protein skimmer, 25 Lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand. The tank has been set up for 2 weeks tomorrow and my test are as follows: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate all 0, Ph 8.2 Salinity 1.022. I had 2 Ocellaris clownfish, 1 Purple Dottyback, 1 Bi Color Angel and a Tan Colored
Haitian Anemone. The Anemone ate 1 clown and the Bi Colored Angel. When I purchased the Anemone, the salesman never mentioned that it was aggressive. So this afternoon, I am returning the Anemone to the store and I have to start almost over. I still have 1 Clown fish and the purple dorrt back, with the size of the tank, what would you suggest as to what I should put in the tank? Is it time to get a cleaner crew ( Turbo snails and Cleaner Shrimp )? I'm open to help / suggestions. I'm am new to the hobbie and am looking for help. I know that a 29 gallon tank is a lot for a newbie, but I am very dertemined to make this work and ready to put in the work.

Good day fellow reefers

Hi, my name is Drew and I have been in the hobby for about 6 years now. I love all tanks but have come to be most fond of reef tanks. Being that money is always tight, I have spent the last two years buying and putting together my brand new 75 gal Mixed reef tank.

Hi everyone new to saltwater have had freshwater for years but made the switch. I have a 55g and looking to get more soon hopefully.

New to saltwater. I've done freshwater for over 20yrs. I've tried saltwater once before but didn't bother to research or anything like that. I treated it like freshwater and that was a big mistake. I'm doing my reasearch now, got the right equipment, q tank, etc. I'm also taking my time and being very patient. So far, my tanks only have water in them with the equipment running. You'll be hearing a lot more from me once I get going!!

New to the club!

New to the club!

Well all. I'm new to the club but not to the hobby. Been away for a few years and I'm happy to be back. My wife is even more receptive than the last time. Go figure. Anyway, I'm looking forward to sharing my new 150 gallon SPS build with you all.:bounce1:
