Newbie in Northern Cali!

Hi Guys,

25 yr old guy here just started my reef project about 7 months. Healthy tank only 14gal bio cube but planing to upgrade to red sea max soon. Love the hobby and I am so addicted to it. Love everything about his site. So, informational helpful and fascinating. I had no idea there was such a big community.

Also, in it to read up on all the trial and tribulations on a starter reef tank. I guess what brought me here is. I tried fragging a duncan coral and it 1 polyp cracked in half. Don't know what to do so i will just keep looking.

:)

Hello!

Hello!

Hey everyone, my names Larry! Looking forward to learning and sharing as much as I can here, I currently have a 75 gallon reef ive been running for two years but just moved a month ago so everything is a mess atm. Upgrading to a 90 gallon rimless tank very soon so ill try a thread for that! Happy 4th of July to all you Americans!

I knew there had to be a thread in here somewhere for this purpose! :) My name is Sarah, my fiance is Johnny, and we (he) has a 55 gal reef tank. I've been getting into the past 2 years, he has had the tank set up for 10+ years, (and knows much more about everything than I do! LOL!) I do the livestock and researching, he does the maintenance and technical stuff for the tank. As of right now, we currently house a black and white damsel (which I named Marty; after the zebra in Madascar) and a Volitans Lionfish (Mufasa; after the lion king!) (yes, I have small children!) as well as many assorted mushrooms, a green carpet anemone, green dragon eyes, a green spaghetti coral and green flower pot coral. Very excited to be here, and have already gained tons of useful knowledge, and (hopefully) answered some questions on things I didn't know I knew about already! (I confirmed with Johnny prior to leaving incorrect answers lol)

Hi everyone,

New to Salt Water

New to Salt Water

Hello my name is stephanie and I'm new to saltwater all together I have recently set up a 29 gal. tank and aquired 2 ocerlaris clown fish that so far after a week of having them are doing great. With the help of a couple friends talking me through how to set it all up and what I need this is what I have so far I do plan on getting about 35 more lbs of live rock and upgrading my lighting to 96 W PC light which I'm sure I will need some help on how to do that since my tank was all bought as a package deal and has a top on it. I want to add a Royal Gramma To it maybe 2 but I'm on a budget and doing everything one thing at a time. I'm going to get my snails and more live rock put in this weekend then slowly gonna keep adding more rock til I get enough. Any Tips would be appreciated on do's and don'ts like I said this is my first attempt at this. it actually was just started because my daughter wanted a nemo fish but the more I read and the more tanks I see I'm thinking I may be end up with several tanks in the future.

Hello everyone!
My name is Mary, by day I am an artist and by night I am a coral-watcher. ;)

Like most of us in this thread, I've just started my first saltwater tank, for me just 2mo ago. As far as experience, I've kept planted freshwater tanks where I collect different species of snails for 15yrs or so, and have also keep "fancy" goldfish (pearlscale, lionhead, ryukin, ect.). Right now my planted freshwater tank is 3g, so no fish but right now I do have 3 species of snails.

My reef is a 3g micro, inverts only. I'm pretty excited about it. How the sand and rock work as filtration and constantly has new critters showing up on it is exactly what I've always tried for with my freshwater tanks, that sort of bio-balance.

So that's my spiel!

My name is Dan, I'm 21, married for almost two years, with a 7 month old son. I've been in the hobby for two years, longtime lurker of RC, decided its about time I start contributing lol. I have a 65g mixed reef that has suffered some mild negligence the past 7 months (priorities lol), but as my wife and I learn to better balance our new lives as parents with our old lives, I've been rediscovering this awesome hobby and getting my tank back on track. I look forward to becoming a more involved member of the RC community, and as my wife and I look for a new, larger home, hopefully an upgrade. Just don't tell Mom! ;)

Hi my name is Rob and I am starting a new build (my first custom build) with a 240 gallon T****** acrylic flat back hex tank. I was in the hobby almost 20 years ago and recently got the bug to jump back into the water full steam! I recently acquired a working 220 gallon glass tank with livestock (fish, softies). Although the livestock seems well adjusted and healthy the water quality and set up is marginal so I will be posting here in the forums for help getting the new set up, stand build, plumbing build and all the fun in the process while I work to maintain and improve the existing tank! Looking forward to meeting the members here in the forum and hopefully gaining insight with all the experience "floating" around here! Cheers everybody...

Hi everyone. I am new to saltwater, and have a 90 gallon cube I will be setting up as a reef. I have had fresh water for years, but I am sure I will have lots and lots of questions. I am mostly lurking and reading, but am sure I will be needing advice soon!

Hi my name is Janet and I live in the greater Phoenix area (Chandler). I have a 40 gallon breeder FOWLR in my preschool classroom (two clowns, a butterfly cardinal, and a lawnmower blenny). All the children love it and come from all over the school, "Look at the Nemo's!!" I got a piece of live rock about 5 months ago with some zoa's on it, and they didn't die. So I now have a $5 mushroom frag and so far so good. So now I'm hooked! Slowly it will become a reef tank (all dependent on preschool teachers salary) This site has been a great resource! Thx!

Hello all. My name is Ben, I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and recently moved to Harrisburg. I'm just getting back into the hobby. Starting small with a 14gal Biocube. Though I still have my 75 Bowfront, begging for some saltwater. Looking forward to learning from all of you. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm new to the hobby and to fourms. Had a friend offer me a 400g reef setup but didn't have the money at the time. Anyway, he got me interested in the hobby and i just picked up a 75g tank with a cabinet and hood. i have a 39g tank to make a sump, but noyhing else, but a desire to do it right on a small budget. I looked on ebay for lighting and a skimmer and found some cheeper than I expected. Started me thinking I had better get some help before wasting my budget. Anyone could tell me how many watt light I would need for my 4ft 75g tank? how much I should spend on lighting and what type would best work for a newbie? Also have same questions about skimmers. Thanks,

Prothro

Hello...I'm new to the forums and the hobby. I picked up a 14g nano cube from a friend of a friend with two clown fish / live rock/sand. I've since added a cleaner shrimp and a few beginner corals (kenya tree, hammerhead coral frag). The tank was already modded with LED lights.

Hello, I've literally been a life long freshwater keeper, keeping everything from large cichlids to high tech planted tanks, goldfish to killifish. And after years of planning and budgeting its time to take the plunge head first into saltwater.

Having bought a 150 gallon tank two years ago with the intent to keep a planted discus tank, I soon ran out of funds due to life getting in the way, remodeling and a career change. Now that things have stabilized and I have some disposable income I figured why compromise with a discus set up when I can actually have the large reef tank that I have always wanted. As a result of this epiphany I've been slowly amassing materials and equipment over the past two year and am finally reaching the point where water in the tank is not merely an idea but on the near horizon, specifically before year end.

So here is where I sit now, the "fish room" has been completely gutted, wiring installed, drains have been installed, water lines are plumbed from the water mixing area in the utility room, floor is tiled. As for equiptment my Apex unit will be arriving next month, all my lighting supplies should be here within two weeks, DIY full spectrum LED with independent control for each color, 4 big empty glass boxes are sitting in the room waiting for me to settle on my sump/refugium arrangement, a cheap Boyu skimmer is sitting in a box in the corner as it was a present from the other half, Reef Crystal salt was bought at last year boxing day sale.

Due to my career I have to go very slowly with anything I do, being an oil pipeline inspector I get called out to emergency situations with little notice, so any changes made to the system will be very gradual, as to not leave my other half with a dilemma when I'm thousands of km's away.

I guess I should start a build thread as this is meant to be a brief introduction, and well it appears I'm anything but brief once the fingers hit the keyboard.
