If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello. My name is Kim and I am in the process of setting up my first saltwater tank, a 90 gallon acrylic that I bought used.

Hi, Runteeta here. Getting back into saltwater after a 2 year hiatus. Just set up my Nuvo 38 (last week) with a HOB fuge (I had the fuge already). DH surprised me with an Vortech M10W! (What a guy!) I also have a new Tunze Osmolator, way better than my old ATO from 8 years ago.

I have 38# of mixed Fiji/Menado rock, fresh, so I'm testing and doing water changes now. I plan on adding chaeto to the fuge as soon as I can find some locally. I have the new IM protein skimmer on backorder.

Trying to go slow is difficult, but I know that things work out better in the end if you don't try to rush. Right now, my entertainment is watching my hitchhikers- one tiny starfish and one tiny bivalve. ;)

What's up guys my name is Luis I'm from so cal. I used to run a 150g tank w/ fish room, but now I'm going to school full time so I'm running a 50g rimless tank its being cycled ATM ill have some pix and a build thread up soon

Hello RC

Hello RC

Greetings,

I am new to saltwater tanks. I started keeping fish as a kid with the whole goldfish bowl thing. The wife and I last kept and bread African Cichlids but ran out of time due to having twins. Twins are more or less self sufficient at 12 now so I am just getting a 100 gallon tank set up. Right now still building the live rock and the cleaning crew up. Hope to add some fish soon and will eventually go with some low light, easy to keep beginner corals. Glad to be here and look forward to learning a ton.

Hi fellow RC members!

I am new to this hobby but I have had a few freshwater tanks before. I am planning on getting a 29g biocube and build a reef aquarium. I've been doing lots of reading here and if anyone's got any suggestions for me I would welcome them with open arms. Looking forward to learning much more from this great site and it's members.

Greetings everyone, Been lurking alot, thought it was about time to jump in and say hello. Grew up with several FO tanks both FW & SW so I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. About a year ago, I was sitting in a Doc's office watching a guy clean the tank and thought, man that looks relaxing. Went home and started reading. I actually started buying some equipment late last year with the plan to have all the bells and whistles I wanted prior to actually starting the tank. It was a long, agonizingly slow process but I think in the long run it will be cheaper, and less prone to problems. I'm right at 2 months and its doing very well, I elected to buy established live rock right off the bat and that sped up the cycle way more than I expected, had the usual Diatoms bloom, just made it through a Cyano outbreak where I elected not to use chemicals but to actually cure the source, not the condition. It was a nasty battle, at one point the sandbed was covered, but thats behind me now I hope. Anyway, look forward to learning more here, I've been hammering questions on our local clubs forum, I guess its time to give them a break from me.

Hi All,

My names Chris. I'm from Baltimore and brand new to the hobby. I've been doing a ton of reading so I figured I would finally post and introduce myself. I also wanted to say thanks for the extreme wealth of information on here.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi RC!

Tim here, from northern Michigan (unfortunately pretty far from a LFS). I don't have an actual tank yet but it is inevitable for the near future. I'm currently in a pretty mobile housing situation, so I'm waiting for a more permanent situation before I set up a tank. For now I am simply soaking up all available information via RC and other sources. Thanks for everything guys!

Hello

Hello

My name is Matt I live in Sarasota Florida and have restarted a 29 Gallon reef Aquarium 3 weeks ago I have 15pounds of live rock and currently have a firefish goby, and clown. recently added some zombie eye zoas and watermelon zoas. I was looking for answers to why my they opened when I initially placed them in my tank but now they wont open I thought originally it was because the ghost shrimp were on them but have since removed the majority of them and they still remain closed and my water readings are all good.?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this hobby and look foward to meeting new people that can give me great advice. Once I've learned some things, I'll pass my opinions to some folks like myself.

Hi Gang! Just wanted to say "hey!"

A bit of background on me: I've been hovering this site for months, trying to gather up as much information as I can for my nano reef. About 5 days ago, I got everything setup, and am now letting my tank cycle. As it's doing "its thing," I'm having a grand time reading up on fish, and corals. I have a 20 gallon high. It's got about 20 lbs. of live Fiji rock, and about 15 pounds of live sand. I'm running two 240 gph powerheads with an Aquaclear 50 HOB filter. I have the Coralife Aqualife T5 being shipped to me as I type.

I'm enjoying the process already. I went in last night with a flashlight to check out the night time activity, and I was surprised to see several bristleworms, and a crab moving around!

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself. I think this is going to be the start of something beautiful!

Hello! My name is Keith and I have been on this site about a month. I 33 years old and reside in Arizona. I had a reef tank many years ago while I was in high school. With the advances in technology I feel like I am learning all over again.

I must say, this is one of the friendliest and helpful boards I have ever been apart of.

I have a little 12g nano just up and running in my home office. When I am not travelling during the week I am holed up in my home office. No better way to spend the day with this little tank sitting next to me. I am kicking myself I didn't get back into the hobby sooner!

Many thanks for all the help thus far!!

hi all

hi all

I am new to the forum. My name is Matt and I am fairly new to the hobby. I started a 29 gallon FOWLR tank about 6 months ago. So far so good. Looking for additional education and groups with similar interests in the Pittsburgh PA area

Greetings from the metropolis of White, GA! (suburb of Cartersville, which is a suburb of Atlanta) My name is Roger and I have been lurking for a good while absorbing the wealth of information on the boards. A little background about me: I'm a process control engineer, former Army aviator, let's just say middle age, and just about to get my daughter out of college, finally! It's been over 20 years since I had a SW system up and running, and man, how things have changed. Having a great time trying to absorb as much as I can at this point and formulating a plan for what I want to do. Thanks in advance for all the assistance!
