And macro algae, vascular plant (seagrasses etc.) and coral propagation.

Currently I'm looking for a good straight forward list of beginner corals not just a top 10 of sps, LPS, softies and such.

I get a lot of garbage content it seems.

New to the board but not the madness

I have been continuously keeping a reef system of some kind or another since 2001 with the exception of three years when employment training made it impossible. I am new to RC. I guess I did sign up a few years ago but kind of forgot about it. I have been more or less a lone wolf I don't know that there are lots of reefers in my neck of the woods. Currently I have a 300 gallon plus system with plans to make it grow considerably larger. I love the biology of the hobby and the more biologically sound the system the more I like it. I am a DIY by nature but decided I might be reinventing the wheel so I am going to spend some time on the board and see if I have anything to offer while getting some ideas along the way. I love it all but I guess the stony corals get my motor running the best.
 
Hello people from Reef Central my name is David I'm 25 and I I'm kind of new to this hobby my firs tank was a 10 gallon nano tank second tank was a 35 gallon bio cube but I have upgraded to a 150 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sum the tank is empty right now but will have it running slowly just have to start but the parts I will need well hope to hear for some of ya'll and thanks for taking the time to read this post

Hi, I'm Karen. I am sort of new to the hobby, having had a fowler tank several years ago and a reef tank three years ago then I moved and never got the tank back up and running. That 16 gallon biocube went to my granddaughter a few weeks ago. She has a couple plates in it. I spent the last year getting a 40 breeder together to put together. It is now up and running with live rock and a clean up crew of ten assorted snails and ten blue legged hermits. Phh is 8.2, nitrate is zero, nitrite is zero, ammonia is zero---just waiting for it to be safe for my new fish and beginner corals to go in. It has been up for about a month now.
 
Hi I'm tony I just got a 40 gallon breeder tank. Setting it up.for mostly coral. Sand in and rock on the way. Doing half dry live and other half regular live rock. Just have to wait till next week to get the light. Hopefully it cycles pretty quick

Hey guys/gals! My name is Michael and I'm new to the forum but not that new to the hobby...been reefing for roughly 4 years now...just recently embarked on a new nano reef! (35 gallon bowfront)! Glad to be able to bounce ideas off many much more experienced reefers! What I love about the hobby is that there is always more to learn!

My name is Chris. I've been in and out of aquariums as a hobby for 30 years all fresh water. I recently was gifted a 135 gallon Oceanic reef setup from my Father-in-law who no longer has the time or interest. I have yet to move it from his house to mine and am researching the best methods. He hasn't really kept it up to well and of course all of the equipment, while functioning, is pretty old. I am looking for as much info as I can to get this thing back up and looking sweet. Any tips on where to start are very much appreciate.

Evening everyone and thanks for creating such a great forum. New to the hobby, just completed a fish-less cycle on my 60G Red Sea Reef tank - my first fish, 2 clowns and a Dotty, are in their QT and I am looking forward to getting stuck in.

Hey all, Dylan here (aka dilkROM). I've got a 300l tank up and running for some months now and slowly getting in more coral and more fish. Currently running into a few tricky things with flow (it's a delta tank) and also some brown film (algae) on various coral. Will post in the appropriate forum but just a short intro!

Thanks for building such a great forum, I've been lurking and reading for a while and figured it was time to start speaking up.
 
Hello. Reef newb from the UK (Lancashire) just joined the forum. Looking to get a 85 gallon (UK) / 100 gallon (US) reef set up in the coming months so I will be using this forum A LOT for advice etc.

Hi I'm new to the hobby and need help with questions regarding cupermine and length of time treating before seeing improvement. I have one blue tang a baby in 10 gallon quarantine still white fluffy stuff hanging off fish . Been treating 1 1/2 weeks now
 
Hello, I am another first time marine fowlr tank owner. I'm currently cycling my 550L tank. I live in Indonesia (where many marine livestocks are imported from). I've been following this hobby and forum for a long time, but never really jumped into the hobby until a couple months ago (yay for finally having my own income).

Living in Indonesia gives me easy access to many "live" things: live sand, live rock, fresh seawater, different kinds of fish, corals and inverts. They're also sold at much lower price (around 5~8× cheaper compared to US market price). Funnily enough, anything that's not "alive" is ridiculously more expensive here. Skimmer, pump, filter media, and additives tend to cost 2~3x more here than in US.

Anyway, i'm looking forward to talking with everyone here!

Hi My Name is Buddy I am New to Reef Central.
I am not new to the Hobby. A Little history I have kept a fresh Water tanks From !975 to 1985, A saltwater reef from 1986 to 1996 Softies and Leather. Did a stupid thing got married and gave up the hobby. I Volunteer as a Fire Fighter for 35 years and worked as a Paramedic for 35 years. Got injured on the job back in 2013.Waiting for my Disability to go thru. Once everything is done I want to get back into the hobby again ( No More Wife). I would also like to setup a YouTube Channel Showing how people with Disability, Depression, and PDST can use this hobby to help.
I have been reading lots of Books on the hobby to get caught up. Lots of changes have happen sine the 80's and 90's. Also I have been Watching a lot YouTube Channels On the hobby including BRS TV.
The tank I would love to is a 72 x 30 x 24 inch Acrylic Tank mix reef mainly SPS. I would love to try doing it DYI, but I my have to settle for custom build. The Reason Why I want a Acrylic tank is my last tank was a 100 gallon Acrylic Tank and It was so much clearer than my glass tank and easier to keep heated during the winter time.

Greetings! Robin here. I had a reef half a lifetime ago when I was an upperclassman in highschool, and gave up the dream when I went to college. Been teaching for a handful of years, and started dreaming about aquariums again. Figured I should probably do something about it. Lots of opportunities seemed to open up at the right time, and I just started my first aquarium in over a decade :) Reefer 350 with lots of fun toys. Also, Tampa Bay Saltwater rock :D

Hi, all,

First time on a forum in a very long time - I'm an old guy with freshwater aquarium experience many years ago.

I've ordered a Biocube 32 LED - delivery end of this week - Oct 21/17 or so.

Also on order- refractometer, in line UV, protein skimmer, and an API reef test kit.

My plan is to set up the stand & tank, add live sand & rock, let that sit for a couple of weeks (maybe a month), check the values, then start with a clean up crew for a while - check the values, then, with optimism, add some basics - hardy corals, hardy fishies, etc.

I am in no hurry, I want to do it right, not fast.

YouTube is full of info - from ways to modify the Biocube filtration to . . . well, there seems to be no end . . . this seems to be a reasoned place of experienced folk - I prefer here.

My request from the forum is for anyone experienced with the Biocube 32 - what's the key thing that made your setup sustainable, magic, or healthier than others?

I want happy friends in the tank, and I'm willing to wait, if necessary.

Thanks so much, this seems like a welcoming, inclusive space. I look forward to benefitting from your wisdom, sharing my successes, and sweating out the problems I have in the tank with this community.
