If you could choose 250 or 400 MH

OK so th e fixture is in the house :celeb1: Installed the R250's and fired it up, awesome! Question; there are a pair of T5's on either side of the MH. Each has its own power supply. Would you put two actinics on one side and two B+ on the othe side or mix the actinic with the B+ on each side? I also have a couple of C+ on hand as well.
I have the two pairs wired together as that's what the previous owner had done haha so it means I have a blue+ and an actinic in each pair and all four come on at once. I don't mind it that way either :)
I'd go a mix of the two on each side :)

I have to say, the combo of blue plus and actinic is really nice to look at. As a dawn/dusk, it's pretty nice. You could put one of each in both sets of t5 and stagger their start times to have low light dawn/dusk (2 front bulbs ) and then higher light dawn/dusk with the back pair turning on later but before the mh. And if you want a brighter dawn/dusk, you could use a coral plus in the back pair...
I'd probably do this...
We are gonna need pics pretty soon!!

Sounds good to me and so it shall be, pics for sure. I'm going to snap a few before and afters this weekend :eek1: Thanks for the input!

Installed and fired the T5's and it appears that Hamilton actinic are actinic "blue" vs. what I expected, a true 03 actinic. Lots of blue, not a pinch of violet :mad2:

D'oh..
Well. You could have worse problems.. That's easily rectified.
I'm working on replacing two of my 150s with 250s.. Can't wait..
Today is Friday, you have plenty of time to go buy a true actinic before the weekend!! :)

Yeah but nobody in this great city stocks 80W T5 03 True Actinic so I had to FedEx overnight some from your backyard :celeb1:

I actually swapped out all the coral plus tubes for KZ super blues and ATI actinics (only blue tubes i had left) two weeks ago Mike and the pigment saturation has dramatically increased, i've done other things unfortunately at the same time so i can't say if it's not a combination of multiple things.
Speaking from nothing more than my experience observing acros change and why for quite a few years i think it's a combination of two chemicals and the new bulb combo and times i'm now running - i will not be changing my Radium & T5 tube combo again - like ever !

And i mean like if a Terminator sent back in time to destroy Radium bulbs burst through the door i would throw myself in front of my light combo good imho..........

Wow... That's insane!! All you crazy Torontonians use only blue plus... Except for... Well, you!
Glad Ray always stocks true actinic...
So, Andrew, will you get rid of your true actinics and go all blue plus????
Maybe you Torontonians are crazy like an Aussie...

You'd be amazed at how many LFS around here stock so little in the way of 80W T5. Yeah hats off to Ray and his peeps, they always come through in a pinch. The Hamilton Blue T5's I got look identical to the ATI B+ so if I wanted to go all Blue I could but I am very interested to see a B+/03 combo for AM and PM viewing. Jay at RR ran a 8 tube T5 with all B+ over one of his acro systems and the acros looked amazing so it's doable.

All the blue plus bulbs seem to be exactly the same... It's as if it was a phosphor combo that was created for something other than reef keeping- like the Ushio 'blue' mh bulb- and then got adopted by the hobby...

I think its mostly due to Spur2...

And what else have you been dosing in your reef? :fun2:

Of course it's the spur2. Anyway this is supposed to be a lighting thread so i'm not discussing chemicals. :reading:

Shouldn't you be off magnetically stirring something Sahin............
