I'm having big fun now...390 display +

LOL cool. I'll have to go back this weekend and see how things are coming along. By then, it'll be 2 full weeks since my last stop, so should be quite a bit different!

mflamb,

Where did you go in Pompano beach to get your sand? I live in Parkland about 10 miles from Pompano beach and never heard of the fish store you went to.

I would love to go!

Thanks

Here's a fuzzy pic of the sign in the pic of the trailer load of sand. If you can read the number, you can find the store. It was too long ago for me to remember much about the store.

Ferrari, Did you ever find out about the sand? I am looking to fill my tank and need sand also. There is a store called eco reef aquariums that sell dry sand in pompano but I am not sure if that is where that number is for. Please let me know.

That's the store where I bought the trailer of sand. The sand came from treeman.

Sweet I am going tomorrow, by the way, how much was it if you dont mind me asking. For anyone else looking for this store, go to the FMAS forum and there is a LFS finder in that forum. The stores name is Eco Reef. Mflamb, where is seffner FL?

Steve, he made me a bulk deal for 3100 lbs, so I got it real cheap. I don't remember the exact price. That was a couple years ago. (I'm old)
Seffner is east of Tampa, near Brandon, I-4 exit 10.

Holy sand batman!!!! I realized that after I posted. My brother lives out that way, kind of. He is in New Tampa
I used 1200 lbs in my tank and pre sold the rest to cover my cost of sand and transportation.

I truely hope you have better luck with glass cages tanks than I did. I had a 375 gallon tank that was less than 5 years old that failed and leaked out all over my basement on mother's day night. I talked with Tom at glass cages and he absolutely DOES NOT stand behind his product. Guaranteed for 30 days and that is it. Mine was a built in the wall unit, which I had to take out because the Euroband failed and the entire back right seem failed. I have heard, since my experience, that many other consumers have been met with the same fate.... I have since been forced to replace the 375 gallon glass cages tank with a ******* acrylic 400 gallon tank.... marine ready. I am currently about 5 weeks into reef tanks, and I have a lot to learn. I guess in a sick sort of way, I should thank Tom, the owner of glasscages.com for his lack of compassion and concern for MY problems, he is the only reason why I am reefing today.

glass cages

glass cages

good luck with your tank---i had a 96x30x30 glass cages tank that totally failed after only a couple years---it was moved professionally so it was never subjected to any twisting, etc---in fact the tank failed twice--first time one of the front to back glass connecting straps broke--the tank held togeather but the front glass bulged out--i had to remove 75% of the water and i installed 1x1 stainless steel angles across the front and back with ssflat stock welded between---as it turned out , this was only a temporary fix--a back corner totally failed shortly later---the tank is now junked and replaced with a similar sized acrylic--
by the way, tom, owner of glass cages couldn't have cared less
GOOD LUCK

I have had my 56x30x24 glass cages tank for 4 years now with no problems. It was a sloppy job and the tank is soo heavy I need like 6+ people to move it. But for the price you pay you can't expect much IMO.

Sorry for the repost. Didn't mean to do that. I'm not really crying about it, but facts are facts. It looks like you've got an AWESOME set up. The structural integrity of these tanks has got to be in question. I am approximately 2 hours from Nashville where these tanks are manufactured. I went and picked mine up personally. $1000 for the tank and glass tops. I would be happy to provide pics to anyone who is interested in what can happen when 300+ gallons of water are spilled into your house. Just be very careful on your level of trust in this Euroband and Tom of glass cages. My intention wasn't to annoy you or rain on your parade, only to try to educate you on the REAL possibility of catastrophe. I am a consumer, just like you. I hope all goes well in your endeavor.

Bluegrassvet1, We've all heard the stories about Glasscages. Add your story to the ones in the Vendors Experience forum. This thread is about Mike's awesome 390.

Hey mflamb,
Did you have good luck with the pond foam staying in place once one filled the Tank with water? Most of mine...especially on the back of the tank (greater surface area I suppose) broke lose and floated to the top destroying my aqua-scaping. Perhaps is was just the brand? I have kept the pieces in hopes that I might be able to somehow glue them back in. And I am open to suggestions lol.
Take care and GREAT JOB!
