I'm having big fun now...390 display +

Gorgeous tank, Mike. I love your little Bellus. She's not as In-Your-Face as the Tang but she shows a lotta class.

EvMiBo, I have a Male Blonde Naso, Purple Tang, 2 Yellow Wrasses, 3 Bartlett Anthias, and some Chromis in a couple of Quarantine Tanks. I'm going to have at least 10 Anthias. Probably won't add a lot more corals unless I find something I can't live without. Just let what's in there grow.

Eric, thanks, I'm trying to keep up with you!!!

Tom, you're right about the Bellus, one of my favorite fish. The Vlamingi is a favorite of the neighborhood kids, because he's big and stays in front.

Steve, I made it in my garage.

sounds great, keep us updated!

Finally got to check out your tank.

Looks great Mike.

You will have to teach me some stuff when I finally get a bigger tank up and running.

I can't wait to get something bigger.

Take care.

WOW Mike, I remember when you first told me about this build at the BBQ a few years back!

Hard work really paid off, it's beautiful!

Going to go back in the thread and catch up, been outta the loop for about 18 months. :-)

Those "bad" pics from a week or so ago are great!

I wish I could support a vlamingi!

Did you add the naso ?

Mike,
any update on the tank?
OK...Here's an update...There is a 300 gallon rubbermaid tub in the gameroom that will soon be full of rock, fish, coral, etc..
The 390 is coming down and I'm downsizing to a 300 gallon Marineland, 72x36x27, that is being supplied by FAOIS in Oldsmar, Florida. I will be building a wall 12 inches in front of the current location of the 390 and doing an in wall setup.
Since the back injury, I've had extreme difficulty doing what I had planned as regular maintenance on the tank. I run all of my top off water through kalk, so regular pump cleaning and OM 4 way cleaning is necessary, but very difficult to accomplish.
With an in wall, I will have access to 3 sides of the tank, which will have a moveable walkway built around it, so the top of the tank will be waist high. The overflow box will be on one end with the bulkheads coming out the side for easier access. There will be no closed loops. The Orca driven skimmer will go away and be replaced by an I-Tech cone skimmer that was delivered today. It will be skimming the 300 tub until the new tank is setup. Jeff, at JR Fabrications, the dude that built my current stand, is building the stand for the 300. It will be here in a couple of weeks. I hope to have the tank before Christmas. I will still use a Dart for return pump, and my same lighting setup will hang from the ceiling after I shorten it to fit the 72" tank. I'll buy some Tunzes for flow, and we'll see what happens. I'll start a new build thread later in the week to post pics of the teardown and the start of the 300.
The 390 build was so much fun that I just wanted to do it again....yeah right...:o

hi Mike I am kind of sad you are planning to pull down 390. in the last year and a half of reading your thread you have helped me with building my stand . What are you planning on doing with the stand and tank ? Are you planning on selling the tank and stand ? When you start your new build off please send me a link .

I just returned back into the country I've been out country last 6 1/2 months
my wife and my friend Robert were taking care of my tank. When I was out country
I had some problems with the Neptune system DC 4 and DC 8 are nothing but problems I had to go back to my regular set up currently I am using a Neptune system for monitoring the pH and temperature in my calcium reactor. I have some new photos on my thread.

That's a bummer Mike. :( I must admit I hadn't heard about your back. Sorry it's giving you so much trouble. On the bright side, those 300gal Marineland tanks are sweet and I really like what you're saying about your new system and the ideas you have for it. Don't know your feelings about closed loops, but I see them as nothing but trouble. I'll bet you'll love those streams. Really like the moveable walkway idea - might end up doing that myself. These old bones can use every bit of help they can get. Well, in any case I'm looking forward to your new thread. If there is anything I can do in the way of helping, just let me know.

Thanks Tom. In June of last 2007 I had a pinched Sciatic Nerve and missed 4 weeks of work and couldn't walk for over 2 weeks. When it looked like the back was not going to hinder everyday life, a bunch of local reefers came over and put the sand and rock into the 390 so I could start it up. I've avoided major surgery so far by changing how I do everyday tasks. The reef is the last major change that has to be made to lessen the back stress.

I ain't no Doc. but a friends wife had a choice of back surgery with a 50% chance of prmenent wheel chair, or only hope without that was swimming.
She ended up swimming a mile a day and back healed itself so surgery was not needed.
Good Luck and love your posts!

Mike, did you order the tank yet and do you know how long before you get it?

Thanks. I have a pool and make regular use of it.

Mike, what is wrong with your back? I am in my last year of chiropractic school and could give you some advice to help avoid surgery and get your back feeling better.
