reefermonkey, thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot to me. There's more to just housing fish & corals.. its about presentation and giving people the wow factor. And in the end, you will come out extremely satisfied with a lot of pride. I like taking things to the next level. You definitely have to have a vision on what you want your tank to look like in 3-5 yrs.

Mantis, thank you.

For those who ask about the Vinyl, here's a pic before it was installed:

In case you guys were wondering, I did some research on the thickness of glass for the rimless Japanese tanks. The largest one I found was that of Mr. Tomioka's at 3/4". All others were 1/2" glass thickness, but smaller aquariums.

Tomioka's size tank: 60x36x25

That is my all time favorite tank. It is the tank that inspired me to go open top back '02. Since then, all of my tanks have been open topped trimless with exception of one.

One word of advice for people I have who are considering going trimless/braceless is to build the overflow box 3-4" shorter than the top of the glass. This way you can create powerful flow without worrying about water spilling over the edge (which happened to me on one of my systems). Also, It looks aesthetically pleasing as well. You'll notice many of the Japanese and European tanks have the extra 'wall' and distance from the water level to the top of the glass.

This is the thread I have been looking for...for years. Thanks for sharing your love for the hobby and adding some suspense too. :)

I had followed along your Japanese tank thread on the Zeovit forum, showing off all the Japanese Rimless tanks I knew you looked up to, and I do too.

When I was reading about your TOTM on Zeovit.com, you were talking about planning your next system. I KNEW you were gonna do something Japanese. I'm a retard for anything Japanese so I automatically love their approach to things. I was trying to find information on their lighting systems, but I see you've done all the research already and I'll wait till you unveil your info.

thanks again,

reefermonkey, www.reefaqua.com.

Bax, thank you very much.

Project Reef, I feel the same way. That tank has been an inspiration to so many of us. Everyone always wondered what his secret was.

i2ik, at the moment I am using a hagen pump to feed my Ca reactor. Its stronger than the maxijets. I do plan to purchase a peristaltic pump soon, but havent decided which one. Im not in a rush with it right now as I dont have any corals yet. Im trying to take this one step at a time. :)

guy & jdan, thanks for the positive feedback.

Tritonian, glad to see you in suspense! :) Thats how i did it with my last tank. Everyone wanted to see my full tank shot and I finally revealed it. It was fun. I dont like showing people halfa$$ work. :) Hopefully you will like the end result. Thanks again!!

Great! I will be looking foward on what peristaltic pump you will be using because i also have no idea what to get. I wanted the grotech SP4800 but its using 220 instead of 120 or something like that... for the european market only i think.

I looked at the link you gave on the japanese tank: www.reefaqua.com and i cant understand japanese, but is he having a seahorse in his tank? that would be amazing! I see lots of gobies! wondering if he is having problem with some of them splitting sand on his corals.
