Looks Great Edward.

I'd love to have something like that, I've been drooling over the Infiniti since it come out but I'd really really like to have a 5' version with 3x 250w SE or DE bulbs + 4 T5's. Or a 4' with 2x 400w SE's + 4 T5's. I wouldnt want 400w DE's. I'm having a hard time coming up with what I want/need here...

Good to hear you think the 250's are enough for the width, thats what has me worried the most and yours is wider than mine will be...

Do those T5's have individual reflectors? And it looks like all the T5's are one one plug then the three MH bulbs are on seperates? That right?

Bill, trying my hardest. You know how it is when you get something new and you cant wait to see it full potential. :)

t5, AGE in Dallas. Owned by Aquarium Environments in Houston.

Treg, How tall is your tank? Just wait until you see the pic of how bright the tank is. Not a dark spot anywhere. I think its a bit too much especially since I havent add my spotlights. Maybe I just need to get used to it anyways. The T5's do have reflectors. I think its one.. I will post a pic later tonight so you can make that determination. You are right about the plugs. All MH's have its own plug and one side of the T5s has its own.

The hood looks great! This is the first one I've actually seen real photos of, and it looks amazing! It's so nice and refreshing to actually have one of these sleek hoods that is single ended for a change!

Treg-

All of the Spectra series hoods such as this are single ended. Giesemann actually makes a 48" 2 x 400 SE + 4 x T5 fixture. It looks like just like Ed's fixture, only 24" shorter.

Giesemann's DE cousin of this hood is the Infiniti line, which is just a little bit narrower in overall size, and of course incorporates all DE 150w and 250w setups.

Giesemann will also sell this hood without halide ballasts, so you can use any conrfiguration ballast that you would choose to go with it (ie.. Icecap, PFO, Sulnight, etc.).

Are these SE's the same as our US conventional or different socket size?

They are the exact same size mogul base, so any 175, 250, or 400 SE bulb will work in this socket. You can then use the ballast that is supplied with the Giesemann hood, or you can purchase the hood without the ballasts and run any ballasts you want with it.

regular mogul base you can buy Gman bulbs for your SE fixture and for DE fixtures

ED when do we get the FTS?

i2ik, Thanks my friend. How is your tank coming along? I've been waiting to see some updates!

Jeremy, I really appreciate the positive comments. I was also looking into the Bilux, but I read somewhere it was a heat issue with 2 400w bulbs. I was planning to have a 20k and a 10k in that fixture without the use of Actinic's. Therefore, I waited for the Spectra. I also love T5's. I get the best of both worlds now having T5's and MH's. I never knew they could sell you the fixture without ballasts. Thats very interesting.

GSM, as soon as I get these wires cleaned up. Im at work today and plan to stop by Home Depot to buy some wire extensions. The T5 wires are very short!

Ed,
I am actually first one who ask Jeremy if i can get fixure without ballasts:)) This way i can use my old ballast and any bulbs configuration..

Ed, Mine will be 26" tall x 36" wide.

Jeremy,
Yout Killing me buddy. You know I want one of these and your telling me all the info I need to hear.

I'd love to have a nice pendant hanging over the tank but I had bout had myself talked into staying retro so that I could get the exact lighting I wanted...

Ed, I remember when we PM'd about lights a while back you were in favor of having some lower light spots in the tank, no wonder it is to bright for ya :), sounds like the coverage is awesome. Remember, I wanted light from end to end and front to back, lol. Maybe you just need to get use to having all that light on your tank. Gorgeous lights, I have yet to figure out what I am going to do and I am sick of waiting for the new Maristar fixture. Arrrgggg, ithe new Maristar fixture will have everything I am looking for...but it looks like production has stopped and the timetable is pushed back even farther. I have been waiting 8 months thus far. My patience has worn thin.
Glad to see you things moving forwward for your tank. I love the updates, you are such a tease :).

Treg,
I am getting new tank 55'x34x25" and i am getting 400w system:) I am 400watter guy:)

mike

2 400w's?

I'll be 60" L. I either want 2 400's or 3 250's.
If it is 250's it could be SE or DE, Dont really care but 400's I would def want SE's.

Mike, I know that 55' must be a typo...but dang that would be an awesome tank :D

Treg,
yes, 2x400w SE bulbs. I think with 60" long u better of with 3x250w or 3x400w.. JMO..

SLojmn,
Its my dream tank:))

mike

If I go 3 bulbs with either I would probably have to do retro stuff...
I thought maybe 2 400's raised up some would give me the spread and penetration.

I dunno, I guess I'll wait and see how my current lights look over the new tank and go from there.

Sorry for the sidetrack Edward.

Ed-

You now have to talk Mike into pulling the trigger on this thing! ;) hehe

Treg-

I am a sucker for sleek, Euro styled hoods, but at the same time I am the type that loves retros too since as you mentioned you can always get what you want when you do that! :)
