Thanks again everyone
Ah, thanks Pedro. Very cool.
I would love to add something like this to my garage fish setup. If you have any detailed info you could post or point me to on how to get started growing the phyto, I would really appreciate it. I've seen one or two videos on youtube but would be very interested in your process.
Dennis,
It's not very hard to start culturing phytoplankton but you have to be careful with cleaning and contaminations.
Phytoplankton starter culture, probably very easy to find over there in the US I use nannochloropsis sp. its the one with more nutrition value
mix RO water with salt(any brand will do) 1.020 SG
I add 250ml of of starter culture to my 8L reactor
Phyto nutrient (
http://www.reefphyto.co.uk/phyto-culturing/phyto-nutrient-modified-f2-medium.html ) you can probably find it over there easily
Phytoplankton reactor this is more practical but a normal water bottle works fine lol
16h of light per day... "warm white" light I use a 2400k T5
air bubble coming from the bottom... so just a rigid acrylic tube to the bottom of the recipient (WITH
NO AIR STONE) moderate to strong bubbling
After 7 to 15days you should have dark green water (color observed with the light OFF)
It's ready to use.... you can store it in the fridge for up to 3months and shake the bottles every week so it dont settles in the bottom.
to re-use the reactor you need to clean it very well... leave it with tap water and a big of bleach over night and rince it well this will kill any sorts of bacteria that may cause future cultures to crash
Also while culturing phyto, make sure the recipient / reactor is covered with a fine net or something similar because if an insect fall into the culture it can crash it.
I think this is it a "quick" explanation

let me know if you understod it or if you are unclear about something
BTW I've scrolled trough your thread and you have a really nice system with some really nice equipment! congrats.
Pedro
Yes! I was looking for a closer shot of that one as well. Great colors overall. Love the purple bonsai too.
Thank you

well the blue coral it's a Blue Acropora Echinata
