Issues with Ocean Connection

tread lightly!

tread lightly!

I'll bet that any and every retailer in the country has had issues with some of their cusromers.

This could easily turn into a thread that gets a URS member 'moved on' so it's probably best to take any beefs to private messages.

hey gary, i thought the whole point of these forums were to share our lessons and opinions reguarding the hobby with others. I have seen tons of forums on reef central bashing aquatraders.

Are you telling him to tread lightly because it is a local rochester store?

Anyone else had issues with ocean connection?

Think of URS as a family. As soon as someone talks poorly about uncle Jon or cousin Joe, the whole family gets upset and thus, the war begins. The Ocean Connection is a local store, and I think we all know the "Fish Keeper" of said store in some capacity. So, to be respectful to everyone, proceed with caution.

1) I'm not telling any one person in particular to tread lightly
2) I've seen many threads where people get 'moved on' and I can spot one developing a mile away
3) if someone is seeking to find others having issues with Steven @ OC (or any of our other LFS's) I strongly suggest taking it to PM for your own sake

Before I start , let me note I have never dealt with this vendor.

I think it's ok to share specific feedback of general interest regarding a vendor or product . For example, a certain ballast doesn't work, or requests for customer service go unanswered, or payments are made and no product is shipped and the like.
I don't think it's ok to issue a vague open invitation to bash someone. That often leads to acrimony, name calling , little useful information and a closed thread or worse.
I agree with Gary that disagreements or vague "issues" with a vendor are best handled privately.

I'm new to the hobby of saltwater keeping and have felt like I have found a huge deal of support from RC. It does in fact feel like a family. The ABC swap meet was an awesome example of that. Naprestsleep even gave me a bunch of chaeto moss because he had some extra. I look forward to more examples of that type in the community. But the example that Ocean Connection set was not that in any way, shape, or form.

With this in mind I will keep my comments to myself. But I don't want any new members to be caught in the same trap that I was. That is in fact why I worded my question as I did. If anyone would like to know what issues I've dealt with, please feel free to PM me.

Hmm not sure what happened with you..But you to keep in mind most reefers here are into this as a hobby,to be in this hobby most have to make pretty good money in what ever they do for a living..

You have to separate sometimes generous hobbyists, from people that own LFS's that pour their heart and money into this rather narrow business..People need to feed their family and pay bills..They either need to charge prices for items or close their doors..

Can you Imagen the electric bill for running a store full of reef tanks..I cant, but I do feel for them..

I do know the best places to buy everything I need online, much of the time for better prices..But I also try to support most of the LFS's in my area..It's the right thing to do IMO..

Now I was just guessing that was the problem you have, but if not..It's good info for a new reefer to know anyway..

Nah, it wasn't really a money issue. All my hobbies lately have been huge investments of money, but every one of them is well worth it, especially reefs!

I hear ya on the LFS's needing to make money. I've definitely helped out CF, RS, and ABC in the past 4 months of getting into the hobby. =o) No complaints there.
