Jackson's 115 Gallon Custom Cube 32x32x26

Thats a bummer about the Giesemann. Its a good thing you didnt get rid of the Sfiligoi. Tank is looking good by the way :)

Wow,
No need to change something awesome:) Really looking nice, I cannot believe the overall coloration and health of all your corals, especially your sticks! Nice Job, great to see all your tanks blowing up!

Its more pleasing to the eye for sure with the sfiligoi fixture with pics there wasn't much difference with the look of the corals they're still amazing..I would just leave it too.

great pics and great looking system ..... your doing something right lol......can you share your photo period from the start with the reefbrites ? thx

Looking good Richard.
Thanks Wazzel:)

Share you findings at Aqua Cave, I did not get mine from the retailer unfortunatelly...
I spoke to them, apparently the motor side of the pump was replaced. I didn't realize this part was new because the other parts were from my old pump. The explanation was "the motors on DC pumps don't last". I dunno:worried: If this pump breaks again I'm going to replace it with something else that fits.

Thank Marty. I hope you're getting your balance back :)

Thanks! This tank is doing well so I'm keeping my fingers crossed :hmm5: I simplified things greatly with this system compared to previous systems, and it's working out.

The Giesemann gives better spread and the t5's are brighter in that fixture. The only thing that i don't like is that it spreads the halide all over the room. Once I replace the mogul socket I may or may not put it back on. It depends on how bored I get this winter :)

The best SPS systems IMO have large bioloads and are fed heavily while maintaining decent and stable parameters. I tried to do the same with this tank. I think most guys underestimate how much an established tank can be fed /stocked. When the bioload is challenged from stocking and feeding cyano will likely occur, and the typical response is to clean things up with water change, gfo, carbon, or whatever. When I got cyano I just let it be, dosed various bacterias, and continued feeding and stocking. Eventually I was left with a reef that processes a ton of waste and cyano disappeared on its own. It was forced into maturity :)

Sorry to go off topic::hmm3:. To answer your question, my lighting schedule is as follows:
10am Reefbrites on
11am T5's on
2:30pm Halide on
8:00pm Halide off
9:00pm T5's off
10:00pm Reefbrites off

Tank looks great, Richard! Always enjoy seeing pics of any system you run. :)

Thanks Kasey. It's always a learning experience in every tank. Always something new to learn or a new technique to apply. That's why I love this hobby. Always a challenge.
I miss having halides, very nice work

I can't seem to part with them. I want to put like 5 kessils over this tank instead but I can mess with success right now. This is probably the fastest growth and best colors that I ever had.

Dont change anything please! I've been quietly looking into your thread and envy your success SO BADLY! The whole tank looked awesome in the Oct 1 Youtube update.

I miss having halides over SPS...

my god you have one of the fastest growing sps reefs ive ever seen! those metal halides grow coral like mad but i hate swapping out the bulb and the extra electricity!! What else do you run for lighting? biopellets ever? or do you just worry about phos being kept under control

Love the tank and cabinetry!

Thanks you :)

Thanks sahin. I'm not really changing anything except for maybe getting rid of some corals to map more room for growth.

Thanks. This tank has been growing extremely fast. po4 has always been very low from 0.0-0.5. Only recently my po4 is from .07-.11 and I noticed a reduction in growth. I attribute this to my broken skimmer pump, leaving my tank unskimmed for a week. NO3 and po4 shot up a bit since then. I'm taking corrective measures by doing more water changes, and I started running gfo again.

I used prodibio biodigest and bioptim to help keep nutrients under control with such a high bioload.

+2 dont change the light, its a great one. Tank looks great and i cant wait til everything tangles together :)

The lighting definitely won't be changed anytime soon. I had this tank built with the idea that it will be lit very brightly with only one halide. It's actually not very inefficient when you consider the coverage and brightness throughout the whole tank, and what it would take to achieve this with other lighting types.
I have to remove some SPS though. I don't mind corals tangling, but the scape lost it's openness since all the SPS are growing in close proximity. There are a few pieces that I can do without which I think will improve the overall look. Also in the process of cleaning up the sanded misc corals hahaha

I vote NOT cleaning up the sandbed, and instead literally filling it with zoas to the point that you can't see the sand at all anymore

Looking great as usual Pod ... er Rich. :)

Hahah:p I'm still Pod ;)

I like the looks of the older Halide unit better anyway.

The Giesemann is working now, I am probably going to hang it back over the tank. The tank is noticeably brighter with better spread using the Giesemann. At this point I have to go with the best option for the tank :)

Need another video asap ;)
Done!

I can't keep up with the zoa growth and and all the clutter with having corals all over the sandbed. My wrasses like to bury them in sand, and my serpent starts + nassauris snails turn corals over all the time. I'm going to clean it up to ease the maintenance a bit.

Today is the one year anniversary of this reef. I am very pleased the way things are progressing. At the moment my nutrients are still a bit high due to a broken skimmer pump, but I'm getting things back in the balance that I prefer. I am slowly removing corals to reduce clutter and allow or more growth + flow. Excuse the frag rack, I am coloring up a batch of those rainbow tenuis frags before I ship them.

And a pic from today. Some corals have been moved and changed since then, but you can see the growth for the most part.
