Jackson's 60 Cube.... Long Story

I picked up the stand yesterday. I'm very happy the way it came out. This was made by a local wood worker (Tony) that specializes in making aquarium stands. This stand is unique because it's actually made in 2 parts. My door clearance is 29" but I didn't want the stand to be very low. The solution was to make a 9" booster (drawer section) that the stand can bolt onto, making the overall height 37". I kept my fingers crossed but it worked out well.

I should have the tank tomorrow or the day after and then i can get started :frog:

I still have to get hardware for the stand

I wouldn't normally comment like this, but you have to be kidding on that stand right? That thing looks like you pulled it out of the dump......

I like the idea of reclaimed wood. It would be great if you could get tank glass that matched. Or at least a canopy.

It's different. I like different.

nice comeback from sandy. I live pretty close to you and also felt sandys wrath even though i didnt have a tank setup the basement had to be completely gutted. Nice comeback and looks better than ever.

I'm really digging the reclaimed wood stand, especially if the wood came from the debris caused by the storm. The rimless cube will look awesome on that stand if you throw a clean low profile looking light on top of that like a Kessil 360W for example. Not sure if it would provide enough coverage but just a thought.

Im going to start with the sfiligoi fixture with 400w radium and 4xt5. Later down the road I will switch to some sort of LED.

How's that Aussie frag doing? Pic on post #36

Dead:sad1: One of my buddies still has it doing well and color has really improved for him.

The transfer is complete.

The transfer is complete.

The new tank is running and the corals from the 60 gallon are transferred over. Everything went well. No losses and I can already see new growth on SPS. I still have to organize wires and I'm waiting for mp 40's to come in. I will start a new tank thread soon once I organize all the photos and make a detailed post.

Hey Rich what substrate are you using? I just started a tank again and I need to add some a little bit more coarse so it won't blow round.

looking good. i saw you're 60 cube, really liked that setup too.

Thanks. I'm really loving the room in the new tank. I think I had too much rock in my 60. It was tough to get good flow through the tank.

Vic!!! What's up buddy? What size tank did you setup? I went with a mix of caribsea reef grade aragonite and crushed coral. I used about 50lbs in total for a 1 1/2" - 2" sandbed.

I bought a used 90 gal it's been over two years without a tank I couldn't take it any longer. Here I am starting all over.
Your tank is looking sweet as usual. I'll post some pic's when I get my lights.
I'm glad I asked you I thought the crush coral will be to coarse but after looking at yours I think that would be my best option. I'll just mix it in with what I have.
Thanks,
Vic

Looking great! The rockwork is very reminiscent of your famous Solana.

Looking at LED's...I thought and thought and thought and looked at threads and then having visited some peoples tanks in the past few months...I've finally placed an order for the 8X24watt LED Powermodule. One of my LFS runs the AI Sols flanked by ATI Blue+ and the colours look awesome. I thought I might as well stick to T5 with LED for the shimmer.

Look forward to your new thread. Do announce the new thread here as well so we dont miss the new thread.

Thanks Sahin. It does look like my old 34 gallon. I didn't try to make that happen, I guess it's just my style :o

If I do switch in the future to LED's I will probably choose that fixture also (36" unit though). The thing is that my halide is not much less economical and I get to have a 400w radium making my sps glow. I am in no rush to change I guess :headwally:
