jamie's purple gigantea

This is the purple gigantea that I found at my local LFS, Pasadena Tropical Fish, on Sunday. I ended up picking it up and cancelling the Liveaquaria DD order. The owner told me he's had it for 3 weeks now.

This is what it looked like on Monday morning before I left for my 5 hour road trip to northern CA (yes, I was insane enough to take this gig w/me to my parents place, complete with 20 gallons of RO/DI water, salt, the entire QT kit, etc. etc!!):

Here it is the next day on Tues, looking none the worse for wear after a 5.5 hour road trip:

However, Tues night, it started excreting the black pellets, with tentacles mixed in. Started the cipro dosing, 500 mg/10 gallons of water

Wed. it looked like it was slightly balding, but I'm not too worried bc I have not seen it deflate at all. Still continued w/my cipro dosage.

Today, honestly, looks about the same to me ...always holds itself high, never deflates.

will do my best with gig updates, but man, it's kinda crappy when the 'rents don't have internet at their home! :p

I plan on treating with cipro all the way til Monday, that's when I drive back down to LA with this guy, and into my DT he goes!

Classic. I have made the trip a few times with anemones in tote .... lol. God bless rubbermaid totes and battery powered air pumps.

I used to live in Pasadena, and I think that I sold you a nice BTA around 6 or 7 years ago....red base and green tentacles that I misidentified as a magnifica...

If you need anything let me know, I have antibiotics and equipment on hand...

Thanks for the words of encouragement and support, fellow nor-cal-ers! :) My parents live in Fremont, so, definitely planning on checking out Reef Raft before I head back ;)

The gig's looking pretty good so far, so I'm thinking it should be a smooth transition into the 56 DT when I get back. I upgraded to a 133 cube and my husband's working on the plumbing while I'm gone. But it'll definitely take some more time before he's ready to go into his permanent home (the 133!).

Here's how he looks today. Still looking pretty decent...has never deflated yet...fingers crossed that he stays this way!

Consider cut back on the Cipro to just 250 mg/10 gal.
He is looking good. With him not deflates, I would not use high dose Cipro yet. I think there is a possibility that high dose Cipro may cause bleaching.
