Jebao Cross Flow Pump

So what's the expected life of the pump???

I've owned 3 Jebao Crossflows and 1 Maxspect Gyre.

The Crossflows ran for 3+ months, 2 months and less than a week. All 3 had the motors fail. If anybody needs spare parts other than motors, I've got some.:headwalls:
I'm serious, PM me and I'll ship them for a small fee!

The Maxspect feels frail compared to the Jebao, but I bought it used about 2 months before I got the first Jebao, about 6 months ago. And it's still runs just fine.

And this review is from a guy with a handful of Jebao wavemakers and 3 return pumps from Jebao that all work fine.:spin2:

I wouldn't take a Jebao Crossflow if you gave it to me for free. It isn't worth the time it takes to put in the tank. Maybe when Gen2 comes out?:strooper:

Was having the same issue with my cp-40, cleaned it for the first time and keeps stopping and getting the red light. Had a real good look at the unit. Just noticed inside the impeller cage there are two raised bumps on both sides. These line up with two cut outs on the impeller itself. Just put If back together and seems to be working fine. Think this should be said on the instructions as I think this is what the issue was. Hope this helps somebody

All 3 of my failed Crossflows don't even run without the cages added on. But I hope you may have helped others.

OK, RC friends, Guess what my cp 40 died yesterday. Red light came on. Only 3 months old, purchased off ebay from "lotuspond" in july. Contacted both them and jebao/jecod to see if any provisions are in place for dead products. No response as of yet.
SO i dissected it, lubed all joint with petroleium jelly and rebuilt care fully. It Sputters , stops, resets and then goes red light mode. When apart motors spin freely for the most part. Impellers spin with ease using a tooth pick through the cage once rebuilt. I dont think its a motor issue, like someone said motor needs to be energized by the controller. So I think the brain has gone bonkers.
Arrrggghhh..... anh advice. And yes its is surgically clean.

Another question, Has anyone tried to connect the Cp-40 to a maxspect controller ?? Is it even possible ? MY Cp 40 has joined the red light club and before i back my car over it , im considering any possible options. I even considered using a DC 24 volt potentiometer and bypass the controller altogether.

Any DIY guys or gals out there try anything??

OK, call me a sucker, but I just can't see spending the big bucks for a Maxspect Gyre. Yes, I have one, but I got it used and for a steal of a deal.

So I bought another Crossflow (my 4th) from Fish Street since they warranty them.

Then I tried getting my money back for the one I bought on ebay with an $8 assurance policy. Surprise! They sent me a check for my $105 Crossflow.

This weekend at a local club meeting a friend who bought a Crossflow in the same group buy that I bought my first 2, told me his died and the seller got him a new wet side. So I called the seller and it turns out he got them through Reef Breeders before they quite selling them. And Reef Breeders is sending me 2 new motors! I just can't say enough about Reef Breeders customer service. You'd think they were selling stuff like Royal Exculsiv or Eco Tech!

Now I appreciate Reef Breeders standing up and doing the right thing. And the Assurance Plan doing the same, although it did require more than a few minutes on the phone as they don't seem very well prepared to handle claims yet... but the 2 people I dealt with were very nice and very professional... and both in the US! So now I'll end up with 3 functioning Crossflows. The new one from Fish Street and the 2 from Reef Breeders. I do intend to put them back into use and we'll see how they work. BTW, the new one from Fish Street is a 3rd generation unit. And I was shocked that from Hong Kong the shipping was dirt cheap (1 Crossflow and 2 RW8 pumps for under $5) and they arrived in under 5 days! I wonder if they now have a warehouse in the US, but the delivery was by DHL not UPS or FedEx which makes me think it came straight from Hong Kong.

The saga continues...

I read a lot of work frustration and hands in your tanks for something that is just going to fail again. In my opinion its not worth the frustration dealing with exchanges ... but im glad they came thru for you.. the question is will they next time around ??

I just bought one of the 1 year warranty ebay seller ones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252430885468

Will see how it works out.

Bought from that seller for 2 reasons.

1) Longest warranty period
2) After contacting a few sellers about a warranty, that was the seller that communicated the best. (quick to respond, good english)

There was one seller that was located closer to me (consideration for quicker return times if needed) and they offered a 90 day warranty. However, their response was very broken english which concerns me with a purchase that may need a return/repair on.

Would also add, the seller I bought from said out of all he has sold he has had 6 returns. 3 of which worked fine when tested, 2 had a bad motor and the 6th had a broken shaft which they assume was likely user error.

Said the biggest thing he has seen is that they can be finicky with getting out of alignment. Often times users inadvertently pull the motor out of alignment by pulling the cable when installing.

Also said he had emailed Jebao about what fish street was advertising and Jebao told him they didn't know what fish street was talking about. Which is interesting.

Five bucks says that they are just refurbishing the parts, and sending them back out to people. Which would explain why they keep failing... :lol2:

Nothing says cheap like mis-aligning a motor by pulling on the cable... I find it strange that people keep dumping money into Jebao despite all the issues that everyone has been mentioning. The one thing that I have learned about this hobby is that you often get what you pay for. The Gyre is a cool idea that I have been becoming more and more temped to try, but I think I will stick to my Vortechs.

Ron wanna sell one of your cp 40 ?s let me know.
I liked that to clean it , i could disconnect wire from controller and pop crossflow out of its bracket, but it decided to join the dead red light club.

Lastly im considering vortech 10 or smaller maxspect 230. To replace my dead crossflow.

Can anyone comment on the long term on either of these companies. I know about cost. And that vortech moves less water than the gyre, But my concern is longevity. Thanks

Well, it's my work and my hands in my tanks, none of that is an issue for me. However, after reasonable success with Jebao wavemaker pumps and great success with Jebao return pumps, I'm willing to play the game with the Crossflows. It is mildly frustrating that Jebao can't/doesn't do enough beta testing to know these pumps are NOT up to any kind of quality standard.

I hear you; that for you it's not worth it. But for me it's a game. And I have the time I need and enough resources to spend, so I do it and report back my results here so others know what they are getting into if they buy one of these.

I seriously doubt that my new units will be much, if any, better than the originals. Will Jebao eventually come out with a real 2nd generation unit, I'd bet money on it. And I'd bet it will be a better unit and eventually they will have a perfectly acceptable unit and it will still cost less than half of what a Maxspect Gyre sells for.

Are you kidding? They fail faster than I can buy them, why would I reduce my inventory of spares? And why would you pay for another one?

I have a Maxspect Gyre and I got it used. It has lots of replacement parts on it as it was an old original with lots of issues. But it runs fine and I've had it longer than 3 failed Crossflows.

As for the Vortech, well EcoTech is a good company, but the Vortech is only marginally better than a Jebao WaveMaker pump at this point IMHO. And the Jebao is what 1/3 or 1/4 the cost? Just because the Crossflow is a total failure at this point doesn't mean Jebao wavemaker or return pumps are bad. I have wavemakers and return pumps from Jebao that have been running strong for several years now. That's why I have been so willing to play along with Jebao's crappy Crossflow. But if money and frustration are issues for you (aren't they for most people?) then don't buy another Crossflow.

I totally understand..I Did really enjoy the 3 that i bought . I will replace them when they come up with a updated version I think..
I am in the process of moving my refugium into our living room under the display tank. its a 90 gallon tank instead of the 55 gallon container split .

I am going to move my sump right under the same area in the basement so i can loose about 14 feet of distance on the return . this will allow me to get a much smaller pump. I am going with a dcp .. i know the reeflo pump is tearing my electric bill up.. not to mention the 4 500w heaters because its cooler in my basement...

i was only teasing about them sending you used parts by the way...
