Thanks for all the nice comments. I'm going to start on the painting this weekend, it's going to be a dark chestnut brown.

My brother has got great skills, he is a licensed general contractor with his own business and a obvious focus on finish carpentry. When I talked him into doing this project for me I told him there might be others who would be interested in his services. He told me that he enjoyed this project more than he thought he would and wouldn't mind doing more. So PM me if your interested in his contact info.
