Jim - thanks for inviting me over tonight! I'll be dreaming ATB bubbles tonight :D It was awesome to finally meet you guys :)

Davey, you like sushi?

No prob Terry!!! It was really nice meeting you too! Its so funny how much we BS online and hadn't met until now

Cracks me up :lmao:

Mmmmm....I am still full from last night :D

On a side note, Do you need any buckets or a small brute to help rinse your sand in?

Hahaha

Yeah, me too!

I think I got it. I have all the sand in my stock tank right now. I rinsed it with another 50 gallons last night. Its really cloudy :eek2: I think this is going to take a long time  I can't make water fast enough!

Aragonite takes a lot of washing. I would say 3-4 soakings and rinsings. I know that when I am adding aragonite to my reactor, There is always some left over residue. You will not be able to get it completely clean it one weekend.

I would get those fish in QT and then start dumping small amounts of sand in. Just do a wc after you are done. Your corals will be fine, besides, your skimmer kicks butt and will help remove the extras ;)

Yeah, thats the plan.

Rafael is gonna come by this morning and help me get them into the QT. But I only have enough water to make up for the water I'm pulling out for the QT. I think I'll do the water change, then make more water and keep rinsing. I may not even start to add it until Monday or Tuesday.

Okay, yesterday was pretty busy

Thanks for coming by Raf!!! I couldn't have done it w/out your help bro!!!!!

So, we got the 3 tangs out (maculiceps, dussumier and purple) out and into a QT. I dipped them each in copper for about 10-15 min before adding them to the tank. Inside of the tank I am treating the fungus with kanaplex. The max treatment is 3 doses, and I'm only to dose every other day. So the tangs will be in there for the next 6 days. I have my fingers crossed.....

I also did a small water change and added some sand. I chose to go with a special caribsea mixture I found up at a LFS. I haven't seen it anywhere else in town, so I was pretty stoked, because it is exactly what I was looking for.

The mixture includes sizes from 1mm-5mm and there are some shells and such mixed in. I really wanted something heavy so that my Tunze wouldn't blow it all over. I also mixed it with some #1 aragonite to help fill in between the cracks.

And the QT

Its about as make shift as you can get, but as long as works, I don't care how it looks

Jim

Man that looks way different with sand. I really like BB alot now adays. but i will be going with sand also.

How are you liking it Jim?

I like the look of sand much better. That has never been a question for me.

The attractive part of going BB was the ease of use. Thats the only thing I favored. I got tired of constantly stirring my old sand bed, so I took it out.

So far, I like it. But I'm not going to like keeping it clean.

Jim, I may be in the minority, and it may be a long term issue, but I've just used nassarius snails to keep my sand bed "stirred." I've not actively cleaned or stirred mine, is this just asking for trouble?

cool.

you going to be able to keep the temps stable in your QT? this heat is killing me. my chiller is on ALOT:(

I hope so. My chiller hasn't been on much the past 2 weeks. Tanks usually stable at 79 until the lights come on. There's no lights on the qt, so we'll see what happens :)

My last tank was a FOWLR so it got pretty messy.

My reef tank I ran a few years back never has problems with the SB getting messy.

Nassarius snails are great as long as you don't have a DSB. I'll probably add some too. And a jaw fish to help as well.

I've been running my 20g QT at 81, and the heater is on more often than not. No lights either.

Yeah, I don't think mine will be a problem, well.... as long as there isn't a big heat wave next week :)

Ahhh yeah!!!

Watched the whole match :D

Great show in the end by the Spaniards!!

The German's had their opportunities, but the Spaniards finished.
