JOSE CASAS...366gal..RIMLESS TANK!!

Well I just came from OC Aquatics and pulled the trigger on a AGE 72''x42''x28'' 366 gal, rimless, pvc bottom, 3 side starphire tank WOW!! Kevin told me ETA will be 5 weeks and I need to get to work as time fly's when you are having fun lol!:)

I have a existing 190 gal Leemar that will be taken down and replaced with the beast I just ordered. The palns for the lighting is to run a 72'' 3 400w Giessman spectra on galaxy ballast. For the stand It will be a steel stand but have gotten a couple of quotes but have not decided who is going to make it yet. I should have that figured out by the beginning of this week. For the skimmer I will use my 300 external BK and hopefully it will be enough as I will have a 120 gal frag tank tied together to the 366 gal tank. For the flow I have 3 mp40 vortechs and wave box but will not use the wave box and plan on getting on more Vortec. What do you guys think? What pump should I use for the main cir in the tank? I want the pump to be enough so it can replace all the small pumps in the sump (cal rec, po4 reactor, chiller, uv and ect) One goal I have for this sys is for it to be as energy effeicient as possible and simple, besides running the 400w. I know they are not by any means energy efficient lol!:)

wow, sounds like an awesome tank. One, i hope to upgrade to an AGE tank.

Taggin along, I want to see how your set up is going to be..

Congrats Jose, if the new tank turns out just half as nice as your current tank, it will be one of the greatest tanks on RC. I will say this as an all-time new record on calling a tank future TOTM, you heard it hear first folks :D Although this tank isn't even built yet, it will one day be a TOTM ;)

Nuuze, if you go back and read his original post you will notice that Jose mentioned that he plans NOT to use the wave box.

That tank definitely need's a Red Dragon return pump, that's what I'm going with on my new 300.

maybe the Red Dragon II Pump & Ocean Simulator, then we can say you are truly nuts and addicted to reefing. :D

Great stuff Jose. Do you think the reflectors is the Spectra will give you the spread you want for 42" wide? Are you trying to have some areas with a little lower light for lps and such?

This going to b a great build - you already ahve some of the major stuff sorted out. Agree a RD or a Hammerhead will be more than enough for your return and also energy saving. :)

I will be posting pix of my current sys before I take it down which will be soon as the holding tanks cycle so I can start to have everything ready for the new tank

Thank you guys and I cant wait myself. I posted here in the Large reef tanks because I wanted to share my excitement and want all the great input you guys will offer. Thats correct no wave box for me theres no need.

I have a Tunze master cir pump might use that but really leaning towards the RD.

Thanks Mark, I think the spectra will be fine as Gregg has it in his 30'' and has it suspened 10''-12'' and says will dif do 42'' and my other friend Ken Dingdong has a 48'' 2 250w in a 30'' deep about 12'' from the waterline and can see it will be plenty esp if I raise it more and run the 400w. Yea plan to have less light for the lps but the plans is to make the aqua scape semi low and wide open so the corals have room to grow and put the lps low light corals underneath them.

Congrats on the new tank ... can't wait to see the pic's and updates!

p.s. I'll hold on to all your LPS for you while you swap out the tanks! Just can't guarantee you will get them all back or without pieces missing! :spin2:

Jose, you gotta be soo excited! I really like the dimensions too!
As far as the pump, i went with a Dart...while like 120 watts it is a cheaper option from a red dragon and the extra wattage doesn't add up to much $$$ over the year. Plus i run my calcium reactor, phosban reactor, Chiller to UV, i feed my 75g lps tank as a return and my 210 sps tank return! It was one of the best decisions of my build!!!
Anyway good luck!!!

will the frag tank use steel stand too?
steel stand can hang the pendant better.
I was think ing just having made out of wood but will look into it and see if theres is a big price difference.
