Kip, you said a page or two back that you stopped starving your corals. Could you please explain what you were feeding and what you are feeding now and how often? An absolutly beautiful tank man!

i tried replying to this thread about 6-8 times last nite but couldnt get it to post... i saved my response on my home computer... i will post it when i get a chance (dont worry, no earth shattering information in it :) )

I saw your replying to this thread about 6-8 times and was nothing there also i had Many E- Mail notifications with nothing there to read .

sorry for all of the junk mail.... i guess the RC server was a little sketched out last nite.

in the meantime... i hacked up my orange cap and grn cap w/pur rim over the weekend (when i prune those, i take 'em waaay back)... now the tank looks a little rough in those areas :(

here is the post i kept trying to put up over and over again.... as you will see... no big breakthroughs here....

tank gets a nori sheet daily... i will feed a coupla 1/2 cubes of PE Mysis i got locally from coraldynamics.com--usually every morning. i have started adding some flake back into the feeding routine at least every other day (prime reef and some spirulina blend)... then i have a homemade blend pretty similar to bornemans "everything but the kitchen sink" recipe that i will feed a coupla times a week. This homemade blend is really rich and i notive if i feed it too much i get a little cyano.. it also drives the skimmer nutz, but oh you should see the fish and corals go nutz when it hits the water. The homemade has some aminos in it and i dose those about twice a week as well. During thos time i also started playing with K and saw good results. (i did get to a darkening point and backed off.. now only dosing it once/twice a week)

keep in mind all of this is with a heavily stocked stony system.... i mean super stocked ... with lots of corals. I also run a modded euro, rowa, do large/frequent water changes, and have a large water volume to inhab ratio with the extra large sump in the garage and frag tank system. (basically a 180g display but ~450g TSV)

i dont know if this is the "magical" info you were looking for...but it is what is working for me

i dont know the date of the mention post a page or two back nor how long i'd been feeding more.... but to this point, i've yet to run into that overfeeding threshold.

in a nutshell.... i run a "high import/high export" system which is what i feel mimics the wild

you'd think in all of the time i had that post saved to re-post later, that i woulda spell checked it :(

i would edit it now, but it is 1am and i have been fooling with an IC430 ballast on a new work tank all nite and i have had enough of everything electrical, including this laptop.

The K produced darkening on its own?

yeah... there is currently no saltwater hobbyist test for K (i think there is one in the works)

an indicator of too much K is a darkening of acros

K.......?

yeah ... you can get it as KCl ... same as getting CaCl or MgCl.... or you can get the pohl's k-balance (which may be better because it at least has a recommended dosage whereas getting KCl would be truly blind dosing)

a severe overdose of K can be harmful... you can put K in a syringe and poke somebody with it and kill them !!
