Kar's 200g Starfire Tank Thread - Planning Stage

But i totally agree with you. I think it is so much better to buy everything at once so you know what you have and what you need the next time. I though i made a bad choice in doing what i did. SO i dont think i will ever do that again.

Lucky you! Or else you will stuck with a small tank for a long time....:D

Im not so sure, Dont you ever wonder why reefers with small tanks dont let there wives in the garage :D And when she looks at the credit card bills. He used the money for "investments".

Yeah, Patience is definitely the key as im sure nearly all reefers have learned from there own mistakes. So many people read up and buy thousands worth of equipment that they dont need just because thats what it said to buy on the internet. Unless you guys can think of anything else i think my expense list covers the essentials.

You are either making fun of me for having my tank in the garage or you have a nice car in your garage... I am much happier to have my tank in the garage because that is my comfort zone and it away from everything :D

You have it in the garage? I thought it was like a spare room you had. Clearly i do not pay enough attention to the threads i read. I think the garage is a nice place to have it because you can put everything you need in there. salt, test kits, media etc. But unfortunately all i have in my garage is fishing rods and nets, lawnmower, old tank bits, drills and all DIY crud. And if i took all that out then i would have nowhere to put it.

quote dawg hizzle :D

I dont get it, Im not "down" with all that lingo :)

Steve, Is heat a problem in your garage because I imagine in winters it can get pretty cold in there? Or do you have it insulated?

My town house is a center unit. I will have both walls insulate as well as the artic. I also install an gas operated heater in the garage for the winter month and my portable A.C for the summer month. I will have the floor done with two part epoxy as well.

The only thing i would worry about is fumes from other things that are kept in the garage. Could these be a problem to a reef tank?

I am not keeping anything in the garage except my wife car. I'll make sure the door is open whenever she need to start the car or else daddy will be ****ed.... :D

:) Im trying to decide if i should go BB or SSB in this tank. This is going to be one though decision!

SSB isn't hard to maintain esp when your tank is Glass. I really like the SSB but my tank is acrylic and the sand may not be in the bottom with the amount of flow i have with the 6301's

I think im going to order the Neptune Systems AquaController Jr with Serial Port + Temperature Probe + DC8 from Salty Supply. The prices are great. The calcium reactors are a good price aswell. I like the look of both SSB and BB but i think SSB is good because it acts as a sort of cushion for the rock. You all get good prices over there. Im going to have to take an extra suitcase with me next year. :D

Sand as cushion? Are you smoking something bro? I always do the aquascape first then sand to avoid rock slide... Ever heard of it :D

lol, I mean if the rock falls or something it protects the bottom of the tank from scratches. But it's not really a big worry because its only the bottom. I dont like DSB because im a wrasse lover :D But if i did go BB i would add an RDSB.

Some wrasse loves DSB like Leopard, Coris wrasse, Radian   .

It would worry me because the last thing i would want is a wrasse going down into the DSB and stirring it up.

I like big wrasse :D Another things is that ive always heard good things about Starfire but suddenly i hear "scratches, wouldnt use again, waste of money". I dont get it Starfire seems so good.
