Kar's 55g Red Sea Reef Thread

The waste water tube is the right length. Ill upload some pics of it tomorrow there was a slight leak coming from the Membrane lid and the pressure guage at first but thats sorted now. It says to run 2 gallons and then add the DI cartridge and then discard the first 5 gallons, Ill have to do that tomorrow because its too late now, ill have to get some sleep aswell soon so im not waking up at 1am again :D

Oh yeah, Ive decided to build a small pico out of some scrap acrylic for frags and coral QT for when i get something in there.

i think the small tank that you are going to be making kar will be great for the small frags. man havent looked on Rc in a while have to catch myself up.

Im at home for the next couple of weeks so i might have time to do it then, i might be able to get a couple of frags in here before my 55.

Ive just put the DI cartridge in the unit. I tested the water coming out. Its at 001ppm ill run a few gallons and then test again.

EDIT**- 15 mins later at 000ppm now.

I forgot the pics, ill get them tomorrow. Its kind of "ghetto". I had no use for the drain clamp and forgot to turn the water off when installing :eek1: But there was no leaks (apart from those couple of drips from the guage) and it turned out fine.

your makin' this hard on me kar!

here's a standard RO/DI. the black line is the source water supply inlet. the blue line is the product water outlet. and the yellow line is the waste water outlet. keep your eyes on the yellow line, you see where it plugs into the RO/DI unit?

un-plug the (yellow, but your may be a different color) waste water line where it attaches to the unit, and there should be a small tube inside of it.

here it is

and thats all of it

normally this inner tube will come longer than it should be, and you will have to cut it down to the right lenght. when the inner tube is at its full lenght, it wont let as much water out of the waste water line as it shuld. the rest of the water is forced to divert through the product water line.

cutting the inner tube shorter means that more water will be allowed to pass through the waste water tube.

there is a ratio to aim for when cutting this tube to lenght. i think you should get 4 parts waste water, to 1 part product water.

how much water comes from your waste water line in comparison to your product water line?

Oh right i get it now. Should it be a certain length? It says for every 4 gallons of normal water it will make 1gallon of product but im not sure if it actually does because i cant measure how much waste water there is. Thats the same type of unit i have but mines a little different setup.

Instead of building a pico i may build a fish box for catching fish and then just buy a tank or frags or just make a frag rack using egg crate and maxi jet suction cups in the tank.
