keeping hedgehogs w/in salt H20 design?

Hm better take one back to the lfs. Probably the penguin. The polarbear and the mermaid seem to go together pretty good but the bear keeps knocking over rock getting after the penquin.

Maybe I can trade it for an otter but I worry about the fur clogging up the skimmer.

Let me remind you that these hedgehogs are not acrylic safe! I repeat NOT acrylic safe. They will scratch up your tank pretty badly.

That is a GREAT thing to point out and I am suprised that NO ONE has mentioned it ealier... As for the sea otter, I believe that they eat live food only, thus might prove to be difficult to keep in our tanks. Plus they are VERY messy eaters, so a good scavenger crew is a must. You must also provide Kelp for them to tie themselves to for them to sleep. But let's please keep this thread about our beloved Hogs.

after reading this tread i went and got myself a hedgehog at my LFS. i had to go to 10 different store to get it. they told me that these thing sells quick and that i'm lucky i got one. right now it's curl up so i'm waiting for it to open up. i was wondering how much you guys got it for. i bought mine for 200$$. now that's a good deal!!!!!

Will it be peaceful enough to live quietly with my mermaid, polar bear and penguin in my 100 gallon reef??

When I first started this hobby I had a Penguin, but it just hung on the back of the tank. I don't see a compatiblity issue.

I have had Ron the Hedgehog since 98. He is my favorite reef inhabitant. My only problem with him is sometimes when he gets tired he just hangs on my overflow and causes the water level to rise. Well that and he has caused my urchin stress from his repeated mating attempts. His diet is mostly dried nori, the tangs don't seem to mind, and I have seen him eat aiptasia. He hasn't split yet but if he divides, I would be willing to trade for a reef sloth or reef sugar glider.

phew, finally my hedgehog finally open. it's in the tank now. i'm having a few problem. i keep trying to glue him on to the rock but he keeps moving. can i paralyze him then glue him on to the rock? will he die if i do this?? i only have a 10gal, how many do you guys recommend having in there??? of course i will love to have another one.

also, can i raise a penguin in my 10? if i can how much do they sell it for.

you can glue him to the rock, just be sure you keep and airstone near by..... I hear hedgehog scuba gear can be expensive.....

I asked wifey to check the tank params, but she went off into a total tirade about something I wasn't interested in.
I will post present tank params when I get back , prolly saturday.
I did see a totally bleached hog recently (points at MeNoNemo), please search reefcentral for submissions by Waterkeeper, it'll give you a great headstart, even with hogs.

I was just wondering how everyone hogs were doing.. I saw that picture of the one in this thread with the scuba gear... I think that Me No Nemo didn't research Hogs before getting one. You aren't supposed to keep them in direct light, so I am guessing that is what has caused your bleaching problem. Either that or it might be stress from learning to adapt to its new environment. The color should come back once it becomes more comfortable in its new home. But if it is the light, you might want to cut back on the wattage.. This is one critter that MH isn't good for.

Don't get me into this. My hedgehog tank is no longer in use. The little bugger's eyes where popping and their bellies became distended in less than a week under water.

I never had the eye-popping problem, however, I did notice my hogs turned a bit blue after first being put into my tank. After a while, this went away....
