Kessil A360WE

Can a 360WE owner tell me which colours of LEDs are included in the dense matrix?

I've been pretty curious about this, and tried searching, but am coming up with blank. Is it just blues and whites? Is there varying blue/white wavelengths? Any others?

Thanks

Well I am pretty sure it's proprietary because Kessil manufactures their own LEDs, but I do know this: they will grow SPS and all other corals and look great! If your not happy with the color turn a knob and find your color, easy. There is some data though, I know that it includes UV LEDs.

This is the description as most retailers have it.

The A360 features Kessil`s new proprietary Kessil Logic, a unique form of spectral intelligence developed for precise color blending and optimal coral growth. In this new design, instead of varying the light intensity of two different channels to find the desired color and intensity mix, users can select the perfect spectrum and color with one knob and then adjust the intensity with the other. Kessil Logic will not only dramatically improve the user experience, it will also boost the light output at both ends of the spectral tuning range by as much as 30%. External Controllability In addition to its enhanced manual controllability, the A360 comes with a pair of ports that allows the fixture to be governed by external devices. This new control interface operates within a 0-10Vdc 10VDC range, making it compatible with several popular aquarium external controllers. When daisy-chained in series without an external controller, the first A360 acts as the master unit propagating its settings to all other lights in the chain. Shimmer Beautiful shimmering effect gives your tank a natural, sunlit look rivaling MH. It`s like connecting with your own piece of the ocean. Tunable Spectrum Independently adjustable color channels enables tuning a preferred color within the spectral range thousands of research and testing hours determined to be the optimal spectral points for coral growth and color. Dense Matrix LEDâ„¢ technology blends different light wavelengths before they leave the light, providing uniform color throughout the tank. Single light source eliminates spotlight effect, spreading powerful light over a wide area. UV No matter which spectral point is chosen with the tunable spectrum, proprietary blend of precision UV light encourages coral color. Design Different lens options let you decide between maximum penetration or maximum coverage area. Engineered for long life, quiet operation, efficient cooling and maximum performance, all in a compact, low maintenan

You can be sure it is much more than just blues/whites. There are many LEDs and at the very edge of the light it separates slightly I'll try to get a picture.

THanks for the thorough reply bif, appreciate it.

A picture would be awesome if possible! - but dont get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Kessil's. I think they are awesome lights and am looking forward to picking up some for my new build... this is just something I've been curious about.

Cheers

Holding a white sheet of paper next to the edge of the lite area you can see the different colors. I can see orange, red, blue, purple, white, and in between. I put the paper on the other side of the light and got a whole other rainbow of colors including green. So needless to say there are many colors here.

I read they have true uv thingy as compared to other brands that use spectrum that is at uv range. Not sure any significant diff.

Been reading abt white led containing spectrum of green and red. Single led of red n green spectrum vs white led's spectrum. I grew tired of playing the individual channels, frustrated instead of enjoying the hobby. So read up on kessil n wanted something like a mh. Just tune the light kelvin u like and intensity and that's it.

I have 2 A350s and an A360E, all running on an Apex. I have friends will all the other big name LEDs on their tanks and we're all having good success growing corals. I much prefer my Kessils, but that's just me.

Why do you assume that 'more people' don't own A360WEs ?

Because they're not the favorites in the current threads on this forum ?

They have been in the past. They will be again.

I've been in this hobby for over 40 years and a member here for many years. It's highly subjective what you'll read here. Do yourself a favor and don't assume it's an accurate cross section of the hobby or the appropriate way to judge the value of any product. There is lots of good information here and a lot of misinformation here. Just like every public forum.
I'm planning on getting the new Kessil A360WE and my Apex has the V1/V2 V3/V4 connections to control them. How did you set it up on your Apex to ramp up and down? And the only feature is ramp up&down? Or is there other features such has cloud cover and lightning?

Please let me know how you programmed them, I still haven't received mine but I want to know how to control them with my Apex

I'm sure someone else will chime in, but I don't think you will have cloud cover or lightning features if you choose the Kessil's.

What you will have is ramping and spectrum (you can accomplish sunrise / sunset with respect to changing the intensity AND the colour spectrum, if you choose).

My understanding is the units shut-off somewhere around 10% power too so you may need to look elsewhere for moonlighting.

Ramp up/down and the spectrum is controllable. Anything else would have to be programmed by you via the APEX.

Brian is correct no lighting or cloud cover with these and they do cut off at about 10% so to bright still for moonlighting.

I will add that I did install the Apex Lunar Sim Module when I put my Kessils in. The Apex LSM is nice and does a great job moonlighting my 180g. They are impressive. I installed the 5 led string so for about $100 or less depending on tank size you can add moonlights if desired.

Awesome, thank you guys. I kinda figure I was only going to have the ramping feature but that's enough for me. I'm planning on getting those moonlights as well was it hard to program them? I'm new to the apex and getting use to the programming settings.

They were not hard at all. Plug and play really and no programing if you use the season table that comes with the Apex. Just have to plug in the module and set it to Auto and it works great. I am new to the Apex and programing it myself. I need to dig in and figure out how to program the Kessils now but the moonlights were super easy to setup.

Sweet! Let me know how you program them and how you ramp them up :) thanks man!

Supposedly the latest firmware enabled cloud cover via the kessil without the VDM module. Lightning is still a no.

Just do a search for cloud.

Awesome, thanks for pointing that out!

I suppose all it comes down to is some advanced Apex programming really. Lightning might be a little trickier with these fixtures though - or maybe not... One way to find out I suppose.
