Kessil A360WE

I have a 100 gal. tank. 60x18x24

Kessil recommended 3 A360WE for my tank. I currently have 2. I was planning on supplementing with my T5s in order to grow better corals. However, I found out that my crappy T5s are only 18watts per bulb. 2 bulbs each (10k white and actinic) (Coralife Aqua light 30")

Get a T5HO retro fit kit, buy ATI bulbs. I have 2x T5HO to supplement my two Kessil. I don't think 2 really helps much for par but it does add some color and eliminates large shadows so now my tank has shimmer but also glows.

When I bought the Kessils I knew they would grow any coral I wanted so didn't put much thought about supplementation. I had a Aquaticlife T5HO 2x 48" fixture I had on a planted 55, so I decided to get two ATI bulbs, true atinic and blue plus and try it out. I am very happy with the look, it's just better. Not because the Kessil is lacking in power or coverage but it supplements these great Kessil lights. The shimmer is still there but gone are big shadows and my fish colors pop that much more. I was perfectly happy with the Kessils alone but since I had the fixture already and tried it out it is noticeably a better looking display. Then again, how could you ever think that more quality lighting wouldn't make a tank look better.

I thought about doing the same thing to supplement my A350ws and A360Ws on a couple of different tanks. Instead I put Kessil A150W Ocean Blue lights on each tank, mounted forward of the larger Kessils and pointed in between the them. I'm really glad I didn't go T5 because I get great color and growth and I won't be buying bulbs in 9 months.

In my experience with the Kessils the concern over shadows is overblown. I have SPS at the ends of my tanks that are growing with great color.

The shadowing was at no concern, but since I had the fixtures it worked out nice. I think I would also like to the the 150 deep blues as well and ditch the T5s at some point.

interesting... so you are saying LED can completely replace T5s.. I might as well just buy a 3rd A360WE.. a full T5 kit is 1/2 its price anyways..

thank you :)

in comparison, these fish are going to live in a much better crib than I do...

You could do that, or get two 150 Deep Ocean Blues to supplement the two 360s. Now that would have some serious pop!

The upside to the extra A360 would be that if he controlled with an Apex, he'd be able to independently ramp that extra Kessil to full blue intensity from 0, right? Will he have that ability with the two extra A150's?

Forgive my many questions, but I'm trying to figure out my lighting situation 100% before I drop cash.

You are correct, the 150s would not be control able. I'm not sure but I think the Deep Ocean blue is atinic, and more so than a 360 full blue. Again, I am assuming that on the color of the deep ocean. But if he had three he could have two set to more white and the second more blue is he wanted. They would have to be controlled by different lines though.

Would you recommend running the two A360 during the day and two 150 actinic at night? then shut off completely?

or run all 4 together? then turn off the actinic later than the A360?

I would run the actinics 12 hours and the 360s 7-8 hours. With dusk dawn effect light schedule.

I´m planning my next build. An insane 98x39x27 sps and lps tank

Do you guys think 8 A360W (2 rows 4 each) would have good coverage ?

I would run the actinics 12 hours and the 360s 7-8 hours. With dusk dawn effect light schedule.

The tank I have the A150W Ocean Blue and A360Ws on is in a room that has normal daylight hours. No window covering and windows on 2 sides of the tank. So mother nature sets the time and my Apex helps the lights match it using the season table.

So dawn happens naturally with window light, the A150W comes on about an hour into the day and the A360Ws come on approximately an hour later. Remember the A360W isn't ramping up from total darkness. It's putting out a fair amount of light when it starts the ramp. A360Ws run about 9 hours. The A150W about an hour after them. This time of the year there's 12 hours of light on the tank.

Best of all about 2.5 hours into the lights being on the tank gets an hour of full sunshine from one side. The corals are already looking good but when the sun comes in the LPS and softies just open up like it's the best day of their life. SPS just rage on with polyps swaying. The tank gets full natural moonlight unless the California coastal fog rolls in.

I sure would love to see your tank in person with the 360s and 150s. It's must be awesome. How about some pics?

Eight will give you very good coverage. I am assuming it's 27"deep?

Yes that's coorrect. 27" deep.

Could you please let me know how this lights work ? Does it comes with a PC program or something ? How do I get to do sunrise and sunset for ie ??

Right now I'm using radions G1 but this next build I want to go with kessils

Thanks in advance !!!

You will need Apex.

I only read first and last so i dont know if anybody else has said this yet, but i think the majority of led users want full spectrum leds. I personally had a diy blue/white and like my new full spectrum alot better. I like they way kessils look personally but theres some debate on how effective a blue/white led fixture can be. I think this is why there not all the range from what i see people want full spectrum

But have you looked into Aqua Medic site, they are selling a dual 80 watt T-5 fixture for a good price.

The blue and white are effective for PAR, growth and florescence. However people found that many color didn't appear. Many colors where just washed out. The "full spectrum" fixtures addressed this issue and has helped balance the look of fish and corals.
